California high school teacher Brian Ludmer is lucky to be alive. He was shot at Los Angeles International Airport when a gunman opened fire. The bullet shattered two leg bones. Speaking from his hospital bed, Brian described how he crawled into a closet and saved his own life with a makeshift tourniquet.

When the shooting started, Terminal 3 was packed with travelers lining up for flights. In the rush to escape the gunman, Nick Pugh ran out to the tarmac and briefly ended up in handcuffs, mistaken for the killer. Pugh spoke to Anderson and recounted the frightening shooting spree.

TSA officers are not armed, even though they are on the front lines of airport security. Today's shooting at LAX is the first time a TSA officer has been killed in the line of duty. It shows just how vulnerable they are while on the job. Airports have long been known to be soft targets. Anderson spoke with Tom Ridge who served as the nation's first Secretary of Homeland Security.
Anderson discussed the response to today's shooting with Tom Blank, a former TSA deputy administrator and HLN law enforcement analyst Mike Brooks.

As the people around him were running for their lives, Leon Saryan came face-to-face with the gunman. Saryan says he asked him whether he worked for the TSA. Saryan told Anderson, "If I had a TSA uniform on, I would not be here talking to you."
