Last night, I made it out to one of the many parties in town. OK, let's be honest, it wasn't so much "out" but "downstairs" since the party was in my hotel. So it was kind of hard to pass up.

The party was hosted by Norman Lear's Declare Yourself organization. It was really just a celebration for all of those people who got out to vote in this election, especially the first-timers. And Declare Yourself did an awesome job.

The party was hosted by Jessica Alba, and John Legend and Maroon 5 performed. The night ended with Samantha Ronson DJ'ing a great mix of hits. You may know Ronson more from the tabloids, as she and Lindsay Lohan are quite tight. Lohan was there along with many other celebs.

Here are some of the things we are looking at today:

The Obamas are coming back to the states –the girls have to start school soon! The Hay-Adams hotel in DC will serve as their temporary home until January 15.

And as the Obama family gets ready for the Inauguration, you can get ready, too by buying some “Obamabilia” from the inauguration team’s online store. Everything from panoramic posters to designer t-shirts are up for sale.

If you are like most Americans, however, and you don’t have a lot of extra cash to spend on memorabilia…keep your eye out for Obama’s multi-billion dollar stimulus plan. How will Obama approach the push for his stimulus plan for the new year? How will he circumvent the opposition to his proposal? We’ll have Ed Henry dig into that for us tonight.

We’ll also follow the developments in the Middle East…Is a ground offensive imminent? How many civilians are getting caught in the crossfire? We’ll have a live report from the region on the latest.

And finally, a heart-wrenching interview with a survivor of the avalanches in western Canada. He describes digging himself out and then trying to save his friends. The avalanches killed eight snowmobilers on Wednesday.

Michael Phelps is the only human in the world who knows what it feels like to win eight gold medals in a single Olympic games, and Anderson Cooper is probably one of the only mere mortals who now knows what it’s like to race him in the pool.

Phelps gave Anderson his most extensive interview since his record smashing performance in Beijing. He talked to Anderson about how he did it and he even shared some of his training secrets. Anderson also followed him on somewhat of tour around the country…watching him build the Michael Phelps- mega brand. It is not every day that you can watch someone turn down a FIVE MILLION DOLLAR offer. And yes, Phelps even agreed to race Anderson with some serious handicaps, of course. Find out tonight who won and what makes this amazing athlete tick.

The big November jobs report is out and it is very grim. It was the worst single month since 1974! So far, 2008 is on track to be the worst year for job losses since 1982 when economy lost 2.1 million jobs. Are the American people finally going to get their own bailout? I wonder if this will influence lawmakers who are trying to decide if U.S. automakers should be helped out after all?

Speaking of which…the Big Three are back today begging for bailout loans (say that three times) But there are signs that they may not have the support they need on the Hill. Should they get the money?

Meanwhile, where does Obama stand on all things economy? Some Democrats are speaking out…saying he needs to be a little more assertive. Sen. Christopher Dodd the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee said, "The Obama team has to step up. In the minds of the people, this is the Obama administration. I don't think we can wait until January 20." What do you think?

And finally, we find out today how much time O.J. Simpson will be spending behind bars. It was recommended he receive eighteen years. He could get life. The Goldmans will be in the courtroom to watch firsthand.

Hope you enjoy tonight’s program!

Morning Buzz: Extreme Challenges

All Big Three CEO’s are cruising into the nation’s capital this morning in high-mileage hybrids. GM’s Rick Wagoner has traded in his corporate jet for a test version of the Chevy Volt, an electric car scheduled to be in dealerships by 2010. Will the Volt help GM get the $18 billion the automaker is asking for when it hits up lawmakers today and tomorrow? What about the rest of the $34 billion the Big Three automakers are asking for? Should they get it?

Meanwhile, gas prices are down AGAIN. The average price of a gallon of gas is $1.79…wow. Remember when it was more than four bucks just this past July?? I don’t know about you, but I’ve curbed my driving quite a bit since then, and I don’t care how cheap it gets…I am going to keep cutting back when I can. What about you? Have you changed your driving habits for good?

Stay tuned to CNN later today. New polls are coming out on how Americans feel about the economy. The numbers are pretty grim.

Are you wondering when American’s are going to reap some rewards from the billions of bailout money going around? Perhaps sooner than you think. There are some reports that the Treasury Department is considering a plan that would push interest rates down on home loans. Mortgages as low as 4.5% could be coming soon to a bank near you.

OK…enough talk about money…Secretary Rice today assured the world that Pakistan knows it has to move “urgently and transparently” against extremists after last week’s terrorist attacks in India. There is a lot of pressure on Pakistan to take action against extremists on its own soil.

And if tension between two nuclear-armed nations isn’t enough…one Israeli paper is reporting that Israel is “drawing up options for a strike on Iranian nuclear facilities that do not include coordination with the United States.” (Emphasis is mine) Why is Israel doing this? Read more from the Jerusalem Post here:

In Crime and Punishment, there is word that OJ Simpson –convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping – could get 6 years, 18 years – or even life in prison when he is sentenced tomorrow. CNN has just learned that Kim and Fred Goldman may be in the courtroom. We will keep you posted.

AC360 will be pre-empted by a two hour special “Scream Bloody Murder”. CNN’s Christiane Amanpour traveled to the killing fields of Europe, Africa and Asia to trace the personal accounts of those who tried to stop the world’s most heinous crime: genocide.

Look for AC360 at 11pm ET tonight…

With an economic crisis not seen since the Great Depression, two wars, the global fight on terrorism and emboldened rivals like Iran and Russia … the challenges facing President-Elect Obama are vast. Anderson Cooper sits down with a team of CNN reporters and contributors to break down the issues and offer advice to America’s 44th President. Join Anderson, Christiane Amanpour, Michael Ware, David Gergen, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Ali Velshi and others for this 360 special …EXTREME CHALLENGES: PRESIDENT OBAMA.

See you soon.
