Professor learns he has the brain of a psychopath

James Fallon is a neuroscientist who's spent his career studying psychopaths, observing their character traits and examining their brains. One day by accident, he learned that his own brain scans matched patterns found in known psychopaths' scans. It turns out his family tree has more than its share of murderers. Anderson spoke to Fallon about what he believes saved him from becoming a full-blown psychopath and criminal.

The combination of diminished sociability and excessive aggression is not addressed in the American Psychiaric Association nomenclature, the DSM, but Kindle book Evolution and Psychiatry suggests a new approach to psychiatric diagnosis that suggests how such patterns can be recognized. The MMPI produces a profile that can distinguish between psychosis and psychopathology, but it does not measure aggressiveness.

Most, if not all humans have the capacity to kill ingrained in their system. It all depends upon circumstances. Humans seem to be the top of the food chain, therefore, are the ultimate predators. But there is another element that may not be able to be quantified by brain scans and that is empathy.

Yes, so true. They are everywhere. The older I get the more I realize how many times I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a psychopath. We don't see them coming. They sometimes, are that freight train your momma warned you about.

I just watched Anderson's report on James Fallon and psychopathy. He said there was a quick test to take to give some insight into our own brain. I can't find it. Can you share any insight into where we might find it?
