It is legal to buy recreational marijuana in Colorado, but it's not cheap. Some customers are already complaining about high prices, and that's before some hefty taxes. Colorado's new marijuana economy is raising serious questions. Ashleigh Banfield discussed it with Denver Post Marijuana Editor Ricardo Baca.

They tax it something like 25% sale, it's hardly a surprise the stuff is expensive. It needs to be taxed but they really went too far with that rate. Of course what can you expect, its demonized which makes it easy to tax.
They need to undercut the competition (illegal trade).
Right now there isn't a lot of legal supply, but lots of demand as its new. All the legal growers have plans to ramp up production, and more and more people will enter the market as long as there is money to be made. The price will come way down.
Anything approaching US$300 is too high. Take the criminal aspect out of growing and prices should drop below $100/ounce. It ain't all that expensive to grow.
