Just watching you speak about the new education numbers for the US students. May I encourage you to understand for those of you who have a formal education, you don't "get it." The educators are not asking those of us nor listening to us.
I graduated from High School in 1960 reading at the 5th grade level. That condemned me to a life with challenges that have been difficult.
Limited opportunity is built into that.
If you and educators really want to know where the problems are, shouldn't we be asked.
In 1990, I roller skated across America (even covered by CNN) to "Draw mass media attention to the solvable problem of illiteracy."
As long as a single student is NOT given the opportunity to be all they were designed to be, education will continue to NOT meet the needs of our communities and nation. Students who do not preform well are thrown away when we have gifts and talents that are not recognized.
Today I am a student at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC where staff and instructors are investing their gifts and talents into me. I am NO longer invisible in class. I am learning and have been an honor-role student. I would be happy to share some of my past problems and how they are being over come today. thank you.

How come nobody has mentioned wether or not the engineer on the New York train that derailed, was he working all alone in the cab of the train or was there a second engineer or a conductor on board Also, why haven't we heard why the rail traffic controller didn't catch the fact that the train was speeding. There are electronic alarms that should have warned someone that they had a potential runaway train approaching that curve.
