Dr. Drew, it is not "very" clear that it harms adolescent brains. There is evidence for and against, certainly enough to warrant concern, but it is not "very" clear. The popular New Zealand study that alleges heavy chronic adolescent use lowers IQ was brought into question when another study suggested a confounding model to explain the discrepancy. A Swiss study suggests that teens who use only cannabis are more socially driven and have no more psychosocial problems than those who abstain from both substances. There have been a number of studies showing no detrimental structural changes in the brain in adults or adolescents in regular marijuana users. There are studies showing that marijuana actually protects some areas of the brain from damage due to alcohol use.
Regardless, no one is advocating legalization for kids.
