The government's website where people sign up for health care exchanges under Obamacare launched the same day the government shut down. It has been plagued with major glitches, and even Obamacare supporters call it a mess. The White House has repeatedly refused to tell us how many people have signed up for insurance through the website. It is now day 16, and we're still waiting for numbers. 360's Drew Griffin has the story.

It is the website that is floundering now. The real problem is the alternative insurances offered will be significantly more expensive. Even those whose premiums drop slightly, their deductibles are at minimum, doubling. For a few it will be cheaper monthly......unless you get sick and require care. When that happens, out of pocket costs will be in the thousands. It is simply amazing how many people are mesmerized by the sales pitch and do not understand that literally everyone who was insured.......MUST PAY MORE. Simple.
Montana Representative Steve Daines e-mailed me soliciting comments on Obomacare. Here is my response:
"I am taking my Montana State Pension three years before I qualify for social security, so I pay for my own health insurance. My 2014 premiums for retired State employees are $734.00. The Platinum Plan available in Lewis & Clark County is $430.67, a difference of $303.33 per month, or $10,919.88 over the three year period. It took me ~one hour to purchase (start to finish). Most of my friends did not use the website; they used their phones. Obamacare is a healthcare plan, not a website.
I understand the website is a mess and there will be lots of questions that the obama team has to be held accountable to,, however I wish all the people who are just browsing around the website for no good reason and all the people who disagree with the law that are trying to tie up the website and crash it (I know people in both categories) would just stop clogging up the system and allow the people who really need the insurance the chance to try and sign up.
everyone is waiting to sign up. you can't start the count yet because people are not going g to sign up right away. There is a reason for that, #1 we have till Jan. 1st. #2 we are waiting to trust the websight with our personal information [no more glitches]. #3 we are hoping that the deductables are not really THAT high! ugh! the deductables are too high:(
I checked the Washington State website over the weekend. It was easy to navigate and very informative. I was able to check out the cost and the potential subsidy compared to my current COBRA coverage. It looks like about a 50% savings. My tax and income situation is complex next year since I just retired June this year, so I think I'll have to call for more details. I liked that I could enter my preferred clinic and find out which insurance worked with them.
We tried to set up an account for the first time this am. No problem. Got an account right away – we were able to use the password to get back into system. This is in Pennsylvania.
