CNN Heroes Top 10: Dr. Laura Stachel

Dr. Laura Stachel co-founded We Care Solar to provide a simple, reliable light and power source to health care facilities in developing countries.   Since 2009, more than 300 “solar suitcases” have been helping to save mothers and babies lives in 27 countries.

One of this year’s Top 10 Heroes will become the ‘CNN Hero of the Year’ and awarded $250,000 to continue their work.

Terror on trial

An alleged al Qaeda operative, Abu Anas al Libi, is in New York after being captured by U.S. special forces in Libya this month. He is expected to appear tomorrow before a judicial officer. Al Libi’s wife said he was no longer a member of al Qaeda and had been living a normal life in Libya. Some terrorism experts don’t believe the suspect will have valuable intelligence about ongoing plots against the United States. Should he be at Guantanamo instead? Our panel discusses this case and where military tribunals fall in the U.S. judicial system.

Passionate politics or stunt politics?

Conservative protesters gathered this weekend for the “Million Vet March” at the WWII Memorial in Washington. Sen. Ted Cruz and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spoke at the rally, which resembled familiar Tea Party events from 2009. Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch, a conservative political advocacy group, called for Pres. Obama “to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come out with his hands up.” Our panel discusses whether the rhetoric at the march crossed the line.
