Raw Politics: Both sides are talking... but neither side is budging

President Obama spoke with House Speaker John Boehner over the phone today. When both men spoke to the press after, there were few signs of progress toward ending the government standoff. CNN's Dana Bash and Jim Acosta have the latest.

Anderson discussed all of this with Democratic Strategist Paul Begala, Rich Galen who handled messaging for then House Speaker Newt Gingrich during the last shutdown and Republican consultant Alice Stewart.

Web Exclusive: The shutdown is a matter of life and death for Michelle Langbehn

Michelle Langbehn is a young mother with a young daughter and she is battling a rare aggressive form of cancer. Last time she spoke to Anderson, Michelle discussed her struggle to get an experimental drug through the National Institutes of Health during the shutdown. Tonight, she says her condition has worsened, and she is attempting to get potentially life-saving drugs through other government agencies, but they are also closed due to the shutdown.
