SHAMEFULL ! The government specifically targets elderly Veterans Now?
Hello.. There is no cost to this memorial, there are no gates, no guards.
He had to spend money to make his point.
If the house and senate had any backbone they would put that to a vote and unanimously show the respect
the ww2 veterans deserve. We live in freedom because of those brave souls.
This is the one chance many of these people will get to ever visit the memorial and Obama wants to strut his ego shame on him , and congress for allowing that to happen.
I am fortunate enough to be one of those who will be traveling alongside 32 Western Washington WWII veterans, and other volunteers, next Saturday, 10/12 to visit the memorial in DC. It is our inaugural flight! These men have been on a wait list – some for more than two plus years. They deserve to be there – to share in this experience, to relish in the moment – far too long in coming. Hell or high water, we will be there – and we will give them an experience to cherish and remember.
Note the signs on the barricades. "Shutdown" is in all caps. This absolutely was political ploy to be able to show how those "nasty Republicans" were keeping a bunch of old veterans from THEIR memorial. Those signs, by the way, weren't printed after midnight Monday. And, no, I don't think this came from the Secretary of the Interior, rather someone higher up the totem pole.
I wonder how many of those Vets are Tea Party sympathizers and were OK
with the government shut down until they realized they couldn't access
their memorial?
They can't have it both ways, regardless of what their
Leaders tell them. Typical Republican Double Standards.
"Some of the vets come the same district where their lawmakers couldn't strike a deal to keep the monument open. "
that is not true. there was absolutely no reason to put a barricade around this memorial that never had one. this was petty politics from the Democrats. you cannot blame the GOP for this at. all. to the contrary, the House passed bills to keep ALL museums and parks open and Harry Reid won't even vote on it.
