To all in the house. Lets say we let the Affordable care act have a try. but delay the penalties for not signing up for it for another year. I hate to say it but we do need the government running not just for the veterans but for all of us. Pass a bill and get on with the real problem. Please!! do it for all the world not just the Americans and your special interests!

As a Texas voter I am surprised, dismayed, disgusted, angered and lost all confidence in US government politics. This shutdown is nothing but criminal.
attaching amendments to the budget, or any bills, that cant pass on its own merits. In this case it is nothing but holding the entire US, and world, hostage to a small group's desires. ALL bills should stand on their own merit, not riding on favorable, must pass items such as the budget.
The idea of holding the many for the self serving few.

What is holding speaker Boehner back from calling a vote on the budget thtat would pass both the house and the senate? I understand that there is a small faction of extreme Republicans (dubbed the suicide caucus) that want The ACA gutted, but how have they hijacked the entire system?

Please explain to me why the media is so concerned about who to blame? Isn't that part of the problem?
Maybe if there was some negotiation blame wouldn't be an issue. A nonpartisan media channel would be so refreshing.

    Some questions to think about.
If the government is shut down then why is it still there? They are the problem. Other governments have special elections, why cant we?
The problem is congress. Why cant the Supreme Court declare the government non functional and ask its citizens to elect representation that will function and fulfill the will of the people. Let the majority rule

The ACA is already law. If the republicans want to change ACA change the law. Quit wasting time and money when so many other problems exist. My health insurance premiums have gone from $239..00 a month in 2006, to $912.00 in 2014. Sorry if you don't like ACA, but something had to be done.

FDA and her Doc approve her for use of BMN673 BioMarin keeps saying NO... Why??? No one will answer. They will not talk to Andi... We need COMPASSIONATE USE REFORM ... it will be her Legacy......they have waited until it is too late now for Andi..just as they did in UK last year when 18yrold Chloe Drury died while waiting for drug she needed. THIS IS NOT NEW FROM SHUTDOWN... THIS IS BIG PHARMA controlling patient access. You need to look into this please!!

Anderson Cooper's report on the woman who suffers from cancer that included the question Dana Bash asked Harry Reid was a demagogic as those demagogues CNN often exposes.

No one had mention the fact that all of the FAA's Aviation Safety Inspectors have been furloughed. No one is overseeing the airlines or general aviation community or enforcing the Federal Aviation Regulations.

    Sincerely,
    Dennis Petry

As a retired veteran and a semi-conservative independent in Texas I 'm now seeing Ted Cruz and his puppet republican party cohorts as the new "best" friend and allies of every radical terrorist group focused on doing us harm.

Defunding as a tactic gives the House(with its 10% favorabilty rating) the power to disable ANY law of the land, disabling the balance of powers, Don't like a law... Repeal it as the law allows. Defunding by the house, as a tactic, essentially makes our country a plutocracy ( the House as our governing body).0

Please ask all politicans why they continue to pass bills and laws for Americans that they are not required to live by. For example social security and Obama care. If it isn't good enough for them then don't impost it on the general public.

Anderson Cooper and many other CNN "reporters" have today repeatedly announced that the government has postponed cancer drug trials due to the partial shutdown of the government. But they have totally avoided reporting on how many (if any) furloughs there have been of the large contingent of personal servants (maids, butlers, kitchen staff) to the president and his wife and his children. Nor have they reported on how many urloughs there have been of similar personal servants to the vice president and the congressional leaders of both parties.

If even one cancer trial could be funded by such furloughs of the presidents personal servants, then that is proof that the president has sacrificed the lives of ordinary citizens for his personal extravagances and convenience.

    Hi Anderson,
Here’s my two cents worth about Obama Care:

If the Affordable Care Act is such a great program, why are there exemptions for Washington bureaucrats and special interest groups? Let's hear about the details "their" healthcare plan.....may be a better plan for the hard working middle class! Oh, I forgot, We the People don't have any options!

The Federal plan that the senators and reps and their families' has is excellent, is far better that anything most of us can ever afford. I can not remember who, but some one at one time suggested that was the plan that we should offer to all Americans

Did I miss something? Republicans argue that the president will not negotiate and wont compromise over details of "Obamacare" and its funding. However, I seem to recall that there was considerable debate, negotiation, and considerable compromise over the details of the Affordable Care Act back in 2009. Republicans got an awful lot of concessions from what Obama initially proposed during the 2008 election. Why are Democrats not talking about all of the compromise that went in to formulating the law??

The 30 or 40 Republican extreamists in the US House should be tried for treason and prosecuted under Domestic Terrorism Laws. Specifically "Section 802 of the USA PATRIOT Act (Pub. L. No. 107-52) expanded the definition of terrorism to cover ""domestic,"" as opposed to international, terrorism. A person engages in domestic terrorism if they do an act ""dangerous to human life"" that is a violation of the criminal laws of a state or the United States, if the act appears to be intended to: (i) intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping.
