Most of al Qaeda militants in the Middle East were created and supported by Assad and Iran to kill the US troops in Iraq.
Assad used to train tens of Qaeda militants and send then on daily basis to Iraq to bomb and kill US troops, Assad detained them when they came back, but recently he released them to kill Syrian people and destroy the reputation of the Free Syrian Army and the opposition. I am pretty sure once Assad is gone the Qaeda will disappear from the middle east.
Syria has been ruled by dictators for the last 45 yrs, people have upraised and demonstrated peacefully to claim back their freedom of speech and freedom of expression that we enjoy here in the United States. People were faced by extreme military forces to suppress their uprising. Every imaginable and unimaginable way has been used to stop their peaceful demonstrations but people finally took arms.
Attacking Syria would have been an opportunity to get rid of Russian Naval base in the middle east and silence their influence in the region and also set them against the Arab world.
It would be far worse to do nothing and prove that we have no credibility and need not be feared under any circumstances whatsoever. But the Russians and Iranians and their terrorist allies will not be defeated unless we show greater determination and greater willingness to act. For a start, the Obama administration should destroy not only Assad’s chemical stocks but his air power as well — bases, helicopters, jets. That would be the way to show American power in the Middle East is still to be reckoned with, to instill fear in our enemies, and to hearten our allies. and the most important thing is supporting the moderate opposition coalition/supreme military council is very critical to guarantee that extremist Qaeda and affiliates will not be tolerated in future Free Syria although in reality these terrorist militants doesn't represent more than 5-10 of the opposition against what Syrian Run State TV is trying to advertise hoping that advertisement will keep USA away and leave Syria to Iran and Russia.
Hit and Run was the favorite style of the Syrian regime over the last two years and half, He escalated very slowly from bullets to heavy weapons and then military flights then to Scud missiles and finally chemical attacks. As you know Assad run at least 30 attacks on small scales to desensitize the international community and test the United States reaction and Now he started to use it on large scales and threatening the united states allies in the area like Israel and Turkey.
I'm a former Marine officer. Why don't we forego the poorly thought out attack and spend the "tens of millions" on helping the kids and families in the refugee camps. That's a red line I'd like to see us cross ... and I believe America would really rally around that humanitarian impact!!
Why are we helping rebels? Aren't they against the government.
Right now, the U.S. must nol intervene in syria. If the U.S. goes in right now the U.S. will go in alone, there is no coalition. The U.S. will have to fight virtually everyone on the ground. The U.S. will fight assad, al qaeda, al nusra, al shabab, boko haram, hezbollah, hamas, taliban, tchetchiinians, etc, except a few syrian rebels. The U.S. will have to fight alone 300,000 soldiers/fighters. And american soldiers will die. And syrian civilians will die. Right now the U.S must not interfere in syria
The weapons that saudi arabia, turkey, lybia, qatar, etc are providing the rebels are already ending up in the hand of the extremist rebels
For us americans, the middle east is all about 9/11. I would like to hear the victims of 9/11. I would also like to hear the relatives of the victims of 9/11. To find out their opinion on whether the U.S. should strike assad to help al qaeda. Al qaeda is the mastermind of 9/11
