Web Exclusive: Anderson's conversation with Dr. Maya Angelou

Today the nation is pausing to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and reflect on the state of his dream. It’s the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, where he delivered the speech that changed the course of U.S. history. Dr. Maya Angelou knew Dr. King, and was part of the struggle. Anderson spoke to her about the state of Dr. King's Dream in 2013, the nation’s economic disparities, and Dr. King's sense of humor. Check out Anderson's extended interview with Dr. Angelou.

You can watch part two of their conversation below:

Ever an inspiration, Maya Angelou is missed yet her grace, wisdom, grit and courage are eternal...and needed more than ever. Thanks for presenting this "living poetry" here with Anderson.

Maya Angelou is our modern day hero. Her words are purely poetic, providing healing, nurturing and uplifting. I am grateful for her iconic gift. I really appreciated how she expressed that Mr. Cooper "Increased my being by your own courage...Intellect and courage." pretty cool.

What an example of grace, class and courage. When she speaks of what America could be, I have hope. . . And Anderson, how lucky you are to have had that conversation. I can tell how much you admire her and your search is evident Each one of us is on that journey to find meaning and significance as well as develop the courage of which Maya Angelou speaks. High and well deserved praise for you from a great woman!

You have to love and laugh in life. Admit that you’re funny otherwise you die in solemnity. Well said!
