Locked in dungeon, woman overcame trauma

Kidnapping survivor Katie Beers shares her story of strength 20 years after she was chained by her neck in an underground dungeon and assaulted for 17 days by a neighbor when she was nine years old.

She willingly went with her captor, John Esposito, because he was a family friend she trusted. Looking back, Beers remembers playing in his yard and seeing him build the  dungeon years before she was taken.

John Walsh, host of "America's Most Wanted," calls Beers "one of the bravest, strongest women" he's ever met. He wants the three kidnapping victims who were found in Cleveland last week to know that they don't have to talk openly with the media about their story until they're ready, just as Beers did. She was kept out of the spotlight so she could heal.

As part of her recovery process, Beers wrote a book about the nightmare, but she typically tries not to think about her traumatic childhood. Before she was captured, Beers was already a victim of abuse. She credits her foster family and therapy with helping her move on from the horrific ordeal she suffered through at a young age.

So Only 17 days. They say that 75 to 83% are the chances of a young lady to die in kidnapping. I tried & TRIED searching 4 another survior; but only ;( Found 2! {Cleveland girls and this one.} So I'm also guessing that she NEVER got raped there?! Usally they rape the girls. And we have to suffer through 9 months of pain!....
I've also got picked up once bot my friends smaked the guy in the BUTT & he dropped me. CLOSE!!!
