Check background. not control. No gun no safe.
Toomey knows he isn't very popular in PA backstabbing us gun owners like this. I don't know where they are getting this "majority" feeling but PBS had an ongoing poll where over 90% were against expanding background checks and would rather see enforcement of current laws on the books.
The implication is presented as one can go and legally buy any kind of firearm at a gun show. That is simply untrue. ANY licensed dealer MUST do a background check and paperwork. Certain antique weapons are available, ie those manufactured prior to Jan 1, 1899 without any restrictions, provided one is legal to own a firearm. This is all federally required.
Some gun shows allow non-dealers to rent table space, to sell an estate, or private collection. Private sales have been allowed. If someone is selling firearms illegally, as an unlicensed dealer, they should be reported to the BATF. There are NO legal sales on the internet without an FFL, which would require a background check. One may advertise o a gun sale site, but any transfer but local, within state face to face would require a background check.
Any of the proposals would do nothing to protect citizens. The real gun violence takes place in inner city urban areas every day by drug dealers, gangs, etc...yet none of these proposals would help. The most effective attempt to date was actually by NYC and Bloomberg with the stop and frisk policy. Yet he took nothing but abuse for this being "profiling, unconstitutional." Please explain why I, or any other citizen should give up constitutional rights so the very people causing the problem can keep theirs? Legally owned firearms account for less than 1 percent of crime.
"If someone is selling firearms illegally, as an unlicensed dealer, they should be reported to the BATF."
The ATF? You mean the agency that has had no director since 2006 when the NRA inserted language into the PATRIOT Act that the ATF director would require senate confirmation and then blocked every nomination since? Oh, I know. It was really Sensenbrenner who inserted the amendment, for which he received the NRA's "Medal of Freedom" that same year.
