This week on AC360

This week Anderson Cooper will be joined by Christiane Amanpour, Jeffrey Toobin and Amy Holmes for a special edition of the program at 10 p.m. ET. A fifth seat at the table will be filled by a different guest each night.

On Monday, blogger and author Andrew Sullivan took the fifth seat, which made for a lively debate about U.S. involvement in Syria. Watch part of their conversation when Senator John McCain called in to argue why it's imperative to help the Syrian people immediately:

In another segment, the panel weighed in on the groundbreaking announcement made by NBA player Jason Collins. While the group agreed that the talented athlete will help shatter stereotypes about gay men, they disagreed sharply on the meaning of phrases that could be perceived as homophobic like "that's so gay." Watch the video to see what happened:

On Tuesday, actress Eva Longoria was the special guest for the evening. In this clip, she and the others talked about attempts to link the Boston bombings to immigration reform:

With the news that Catherine Zeta-Jones is being treated for bipolar disorder, and NBA player Jason Collins' coming out earlier this week, the panel had a lot to say about the cost of living in the public eye. Anderson talked personally about his own decision to talk openly about being gay and he shared his message for Collins:

This is quite excellent so much better than "The Point" and the annoying "debate" shows on Fox "News" and MSNBC. It's well-structured, the discussion is intelligent and civilized and the chemistry between the panelists is great. Anderson is good as a moderator and knows when to jump in. Good idea to have a different special guest on every show. When you are not doing a second all-new 10 PM edition with breaking news this format would be great as a regular show. Please keep it!

It is only Tuesday night (4/30/2013) and if this is the "new" Anderson Cooper 360 than I am quite impressed. A panel of thoughtful, informed professionals not trying to out-do one another or mock differing viewpoints. Decent point-counter point on key issues in the news. Amanpour, Toobin, Holmes all presenting perspectives on variety of pressing topics. The panelists also contribute beyond intellectual give and take by sharing occasional personal vignettes. Guest panelists have been solid both days but particularly impressed with Ms. Longoria. If they can keep the conversation at this level the program is a welcome addition. Do not let John King near this forum.

The new format is not working. No more stories about the world's interesting issues but rather a group of questionable talking heads sharing their "opinions and insights". Not interesting or insightful.
Change it soon or you've lost me.

It was like a breath of fresh air.....Something more than agitated one-liners. Allowing people to get a complete thought out has been a scarce commodity in recent times.
I'll bet though that you'll get a fair amount of feedback about your guest in the "fifth chair". Rightly or wrongly I word-associated to "fifth wheel" and from there I thought about how the guest who does the same might feel about it.......
    Just saying.

I don't care much for the special edition with panelists. Everyone other news show does that...I like AC360 as is.

Love the new format of the 9p show!

I watch both of the 7p and 9p and was getting bored at the 9p show because it was just a regurgitation of the 7p show! I like how now, AC talks about the news, gives the audience the facts at 7p and then delves deeper at 9p instead of reshowing the same interviews.

The pannel is so thought provoking! Please keep this format!

    Also get a new table!

Love the new round table with Anderson Cooper at 10PM. Christiane Amanpour and Amy Holmes are always an intelligent breath of fresh air.

This was a much improved version of "(Get to)The Point" redux.

The panelists were all heavyweights in their field of expertise, the discussion was serious and intelligent, and covered a smaller number of important issues compared to a shotgun blast of random issues with poor transitions and idle banter.

I still like AC360 as is at 10:00, but I'm willing to give this show a shot if you keep the high quality panelists involved and the discussion intelligent and credible.
