This is why are community is stagnate. There is not a diverse mouthpiece for our community. I respect Julian Bond but he is outdated and no longer able to speak on these matters. Not even speaking religiously, the fact that the supreme court is debating this issue is illegal. First, the people of California have spoken. The democratic process has been made a mockery by this event. The 1st amendment prohibits the government from making a law respecting religion. Marriage is a religious institution not a United States creation, therefore it cannot be tampered with. People have the right to live life as they see fit and I have no issue with them getting benefits; not under the term marriage. It is sacred and is defined under religion. So the issue is not marriage but benefit. As to Mr. Bond, it is ashame to compare lbgt rights to civil rights. You saw your people get lynched for a trait they could not mask, skin color. Your people put in the cotton fields, made to work as maids or porters. It would be different if all of a suddens blacks were picked on but this is a pattern charted from slavery. So you gave your fallen comrades disgrace because you want to be liked or feel relevant. I will no longer allow the older generation to speak on my behalf.
@Shannon Well honey you will have to live with your disagreement. America is the land of the free! And every American deserve's equal rights! I have nothing against you being strictly religious, but that does not give you the right to make me a second class citizen. I hope one day you can open your eyes.
Peace, and shaysahy away!
America's Same-Sex Marriage Debate – Brian Toobin
You both are discussing the issue from the wrong angle !!
America was built by Families!! Families are the building blocks
of Society. Families provide the Cannon-fodder Society uses to protect its self.
Families made America/Society strong! Marriage Benefits were/are used to
maintain the strength of the Building Blocks!
Gays do not provide that Building Block.
No need for Marriage Benefits.
People who are against same sex marriage do not fall into the same category as having hate, envy, and discrimination towards gays and lesbians. I am a God fearing and 100% bible believing Christian who is standing up for the truth which is homosexual relationships/marriages are wrong. As Christians we love the soul/person but hate the sin which is the spirit of homosexuality. That is true love, to tell someone the truth so they can live a free life in God and not be bound by there fleshly desires for the same sex; which majority of the time is a result of a void they are trying to fill from being pre-exposed, neglected, molested, or had a bad experience(s) with the opposite sex. Instead of encouraging homosexuality we should lead them to Jesus who has died for their sins and can free them from their bondages so they can live a free life in Christ which is true freedom.
