Next people are going to be shocked when they find out the recording was Melodyned. It is now a verb just like google.

If you go for concert or live, do you accept your favorite singer was acutely lip singing ? Same thing here too. Surely thousand of people were waiting under cold weather to hear her live singing, Maybe Beyonce was forced to do that to avoid what happened recently Lupe Fiasco Anti-Obama Song at Inaugural Event.

Beyonce Knowles is the only singer in 200 years in US history to lip sync at a Presidential Inauguration.
She stood in front of the Military, The President, Congress and former Presidents: Tthey stood for the National Anthem & they put their hands over their hearts–and she had a CD player under the stage playing the National Anthem, while she pretended to sing to them.

.....Anyone who says thats "no big deal" should be ashamed of themselves.

Anderson, I have pondered making a comment for a few days now and decided I would go ahead. The whole issue about lip syncing is not big deal but singing the National Anthem is. It is a pride song and you dont know how people feel about that song. Listen to the words. Most of us in the military carry that song to heart and most Americans have pride in that song. I am not questioning her patriotism but maybe she doesnt feel that about the Anthem. My take is this....In the words of the Five Heartbeats, if you are not going to do it right, then dont do it at all.

I think we would all be surprised by how many performances are lip synced now days. It has been going on almost since TV was invented. But for something as big as the Inauguration, or the Super Bowl, or even a concert in a stadium I would hope the person has enough talent to do it live.

Thank you! Ditto. If you are a 10, then live up to it. People admire and recognize God-given talents. We are talking about a 2 minute performance and only 1 verse of a 4-versed song that we were all brought up with. We are not saying she isn't pretty, but a 10 in a studio prerecorded...I don't think now that she 'stole the show.'

wow any one knows that if you are singing in a colder area sometimes your voice will crack she was just safe guarding herself from making a mistake her performance was great get a like haters!!!!

if beyonce did lip sync she was doing it to her voice so it really doesn't matter.

You have tickets for a Beyonce concert. You paid a lot of money. Would it be acceptable for her to lip sync her way through the concert? If no, why not? Frankly lip sync could have been done by a drag queen dressed up to look like her and lip sync her song. If it is to you acceptable that she lip sync her (or any other singer) way through a concert do you think you should full ticket price even though you may or may not be hearing a recording and not her?

So when did the Presidential inauguration become a concert?

Don't understand why everyone hides their head in the sand. It's obvious Beyonce wanted to go with the prerecorded version, therefore the US Marine Band did as they were told. To add insult to injury people accuse them of faking playing their instruments. They had to. Beyonce needs to be a woman and admit the truth. Yes, it's not earth shattering but the truth is the truth. BTW Jennifer Hudson looked and sounded beautiful as well as Kelly Clarkson.

So why was she even at the inauguration if she wasn't going to bother singing? They could have just played the tape. If it's not a big deal....then why did she pretend to sing instead of just playing the tape and standing there? She even robbed the Marine Corps band of the chance to play live for the president on his inauguration. I doubt many of them were pleased to sit there and have to fake is so that they wouldn't be out of sync with her recorded vocals.

ABSOLUTELY! We pay a high price for people who are better than we are and we put them on a pedestal. These are supposed to be 'the best of the best.' She was blessed with beauty and a voice...a cut above. Two minutes it took, regardless of conditions...and what she supposedly does for a living and what made her who she is! I cannot believe Anderson said what he did...a man who puts his life on the line in his job and for more than 2 minutes when he too can prerecord in a studio and put war scenes behind him with a computer!!!!

  12. Ricky

B is a professional singer – she shouldn't have lipped it!

    January 24, 2013 at 6:57 am |
  13. Shelly

It's appalling. She's a fricken' singer for cryin' out loud. That's her profession! She can't even sing live for the Presidents Inauguration? Maybe she's not the singer I thought she was after all. Does she lip sync all her "live" concerts too? She's clearly had practice at it. This acceptance of lip syncing has gone way too far. It's not acceptable!

  14. LLP

The US Marine band was faking it to a recording, too. I don't think we know who made the call to play a tape rather than perform live, but I do think—for the sake of the show/mission/event—the marine spokesperson should have kept her mouth shut. She just made everybody look bad for no purpose.

    January 23, 2013 at 8:51 pm |
    • Tasha Morris

I agree. They always pre-record and have been doing it for years. So I think the ppl whom complaining about it do not understand the purpose of pre-recording it. Isnt it for just in case it have to be lip sync

      January 27, 2013 at 2:18 am |
  15. Ria

It dosnt matter as long as she did it they should be happy to have her there.

who cares if Beyonce sang live or not....isn't there more important news? Why are people making such a big deal of this?

    January 23, 2013 at 6:52 pm |
    • Steve

Agreed...didn't seem to be such a big deal when Yo Yo Ma played along to a recording at the previous inauguration...

Well it's gotten worse! Now CNN is investigating more into the Beyoncé lip-synching situation.

It turns out Beyoncé DID lip sync the entire National Anthem. Everyone performed LIVE, Beyonce lip sync. Whatta coward!

    January 23, 2013 at 6:20 pm |
    • Daniela1

I TOTALLY agree. The issue is that the all the other singers were singing LIVE.

      January 24, 2013 at 12:38 pm |
  18. Jamie Murphy

Well it could've been a whole lot worst than Ashley Simpson's car crash SNL performance, here in the UK at a telethon back in October, Cheryl Cole was caught lip-syncing during her performance, until she noticed 90 seconds later when she realised there were no vocal tape. Just proving miming may not be the best option.

For those who complain about the recording....you try singing in the freezing cold and wind. Trying to breath under those conditions can be a chalenge. Get over it!

It's amazing that people sing this great song live. why amazing? some succeed and some don't. This singer (beyonce) is a coward. She's afraid she is going to boch those lyrics. i am not a very good singer and i, too, can screw up those francis scott key lyrics. Sing the song LIVE or don't sing it. Anderson Cooper disagrees with me (if you saw AC360 Tuesday night 1-22-2013). So Anderson, sing the song live and respectfully or don't sing it and that's "keeping THIS honest."

    January 23, 2013 at 1:09 pm |

Thank you, Anderson!!! Who cares! It was damn cold for anyone's voice. Amen.

lip sic or not that was the best rendering i have ever heard of our nations son

Sorry Anderson, but you missed the mark on this one. Many real singers have sung for important events outside in the cold LIVE, because that's what we are paid to do! That's why we're called professionals. Would you call someone a journalist if they sat in their room and did all of their work inside the office instead of the frontlines? Would that still make them journalists if they don't do the work you've done? Let's tell the football players to allow holograms to watch them play outside in the cold to their likeness of skill. Well the same goes here. Yeah, I've sung before important officials, so I'm taking to YOU. You disrespect our profession by saying "who cares", because we work damn hard and spend lots of money to sing in the cold and NOT lip sync to entertain the masses. In the studio, Beyonce's voice was mastered and perfected. That's not completely her voice alone. Something Kelly Clarkston and James Taylor didn't have, which therefore made the playing field unfair. It's inauthentic and disrespectful on her part to fake a performance. This is not Soul Train, it's an inauguration. If she couldn't do it, there's plenty of famous singers who had the chops to pull it off. Many professional singers are PISSED off, because we work for years to have the ability to sing in these conditions, and because the public is blinded by her studio appeal, she gets a pass. Had it would have been a new singer in the game, you would crucify them. It seems to me the public is more interested in image than skill. That's why America should care. Everyone's faking their way through things and fooling the masses to get money, and we are always taking the easy way out instead of facing the giants. This is the new American way, and I hate it. My hats go off to all of the famous singers who have the guts to sing live because they respect the craft.

    January 23, 2013 at 8:34 am |
    • Paula

Amen to that. She is the last person who should get a pass. If the others didn't get the advantage then she shouldn't. People pay a lot to see her perform, how can they really know its her live? But I do agree that I really couldn't care less. She still will be beautiful and rich at the end of the day.

Ok, but for years they have always pre-recorded singers. What is the reason why they pre-record??? In case the performer need to lip sync the sing. Just because the other performers didnt lip sync it doesnt make her wrong for doing it.

Can Beyonce sing in the first place? I believe for American she can but not for me, am a music producer so i Know what am talking about here! This is not an issue for me its stale news.

Bog deal It was Beyonce's voice, just like it qas Whitney Houston's voice at the Super Bowl . These women ip-synced to their own voices. Now all haters please..time to go to bed!

Amen Anderson! I CANNOT believe the controversy on this. I guess most are upset because she "sold it" so well if she lip synced. Everyone wanted to believe it was the PERFECT LIVE performance? It sure looked like she was singing–even if she was singing along. As you said, it was her voice! She did the performance! Give her the Oscar! There are more IMPORTANT ISSUES in this country!

I am with you Anderson who cares it was her singing anyway...people look for to make trouble.....

    January 23, 2013 at 6:22 am |
  35. sonyamull

Boo! Anderson, really! She's a Professional singer, who gets paid Millions of dollars. We expect a live performance to be just that. It was much colder outside when THE QUEEN serenaded us and we appreciated it. So, if it doesn't matter, then everyone else may as well have faked their performances also! Beyonce is a pretty face, and nothing more. What you're saying is that her talent is basically looking good. Nothing more, and nothing less.

No, she is not lip sync...

    January 23, 2013 at 12:49 am |
  37. Jessy

Hey Anderson if you can pass this message to her, Beyonce on behalf of her stans she has to address this we are sick and tired of defending her all the time while she pay the news dust is it becoz she has made millions and doesnt think its important to address this I am gutted

    January 23, 2013 at 12:18 am |
  38. John Bryan

Could not agree with Anderson more. Her voice. She rehearsed that synch big time because she was SPOT ON! And finally, it was The Inauguration of The President Of The United States of America. It was not about Beyonce. Who cares about ANYTHING else but that it was a PERFECT celebration.

    January 23, 2013 at 12:12 am |
  39. Stephen Barrett

Let me start off by saying I like Beyonce but it's the President's inauguration. If she doesn't have the chops to do it live then decline and let someone who does do it. Kelly Clarkson had no trouble doing her song live at the same event. As a singer, I think it was a lame decision and I could care less what "world" Beyonce lives in.

    January 23, 2013 at 12:11 am |
  40. sammye

Lip sync or not she did a terrible job of the national anthem. That is a song that should have been sung note for note the way it was written. Any other song, okay take license, but not with our national anthem.

    January 23, 2013 at 12:08 am |
  41. Emme

Oh well. Hadn't really scrutinized her to that extent (not that it really matters for real, for real)...IT's HER VOCALS. Nothing at all like the Milli Vanilli fiasco– they lip sync'd to someone else's vocals.
