Rape case divides Steubenville, Ohio
The videos, pictures and tweets are chilling. A picture of a girl dangling limply from the arms of two young men.
Other boys, laughingly saying the girl had to be dead because she didn't flinch as her body was violated.
An alleged rape, made into a joke.
The images and social media messages are at the heart of criminal charges against two high school football players accused of sexually assaulting an underage teenage girl during a series of end-of-summer parties in August.
Both boys are charged with rape. One also is accused of "illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material."

And just think if Romney and Ryan had their way, if this girl had gotten pregnant she would have to carry this baby to term and this child could grow up and find out how they were concieved and then what? Great, just great. What an advanced society we live in. Compassionate and loving Christian society.
Worse, a New Mexico GOP legislator has introduced a bill that would require the victim of rape to carry the child to term as "evidence". If she terminates the pregnancy she would be charged with evidence tampering and could face jail time and a significant fine. Just another part of the GOP's new strategy to attract women voters.
I think this is horrible! What is our country, let alone our communities and families becoming. Why these summer parties, where were the ADULTS (over 21)??? Everyone here should have been charged with underage consumption. I haven't even heard anything about the drinking. Anyone who witnessed this whether coming forward or not, should have been charged with accessory to these crimes. These boys should also be banned from any future sports, scholarships, etc., including the 18 yr old going to Ohio State! I blame everyone at this and parties of this type. You drink (and these KIDS were drinking), what do you expect? Oh but have another one!!!
Bell, punnishing everyone for drinking does not stop drinking, it just drives it underground, causing more events like this one. Your heart is in the right place, your mind is not.
I think the rush to judgment of these boys is sickening. They may have done wrong things but what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty.
People hear about it on the news and suddenly think themselves omniscient. Happens in every high profile criminal case.
Gosh, ya think it might have had something to do with their documenting the entire crime and releasing pics and video online along with open confessions bragging about it? Before deleting them at the request of their football coach? And having the ones that didn't get deleted by the suspects magically vanish while in the hands of the Sheriff's department? Who's a huge friend of the coach and involved in an illegal gambling ring?
Cuse I think that might be it.
Proven as in multiple taped video confessions joking about her being dead and raped? No, the really sickening thing here is the rape culture that is protecting these boys, and it was far more than just two. This poor girl was drugged and taken to at least three different locations by her disgruntled ex-boyfriend and his friends for the express purpose of being violated and humiliated for having the audacity to dump him. These "poor boys", and others are known in their school as members of the "rape crew". That is the name their peers have given to them.
This case stinks to high heaven, the 16 year old victim needs JUSTICE. And all involved in the rape and cover-up need to hang for it...AUGUST 11th, 2012... Comes out in January 2013...Lies of a defense attorney will be revealed as just that.
Actually one of the three parties that those kids attended as at the Prosecutor's house so her son was involved. Additionally, his dad used to be the Principal of the high school. Yes, favortism at it's finest!

The story about the Notre Dame football player who raped a girl is being covered up too. She was so harrassed by the school and other players that she killed herself. Again the Catholic church covers up it's sex crimes.

These sociopaths need to be brought to justice!their parents as well! I can't believe that people stood by and watched this happen and did nothing, but they did! Where are the moral compasses in this town? The police chief said only two witnesses came forward-wasn't one enough? We need to stop rewarding bad behavior, cutting deals to criminals because they are athletes, stars, etc. The creep who made the video is especially chilling-he was rewarded with a scholarship to Ohio State. Absolutely SICKENING! Maybe just rewards await them in prison!
Only in America, what a tragedy
I live near Steubenville and can tell you that most of the people in these small Ohio towns live vicariously through their football teams. The players are treated as gods within the high schools and are given special attention and perks within the community. It has been the norm for people to turn their heads and look the other way when any team member is accused of wrongdoing of any kind, and the matter silently dies. Hallelujah, light is finally being thrown on this matter. It can't be allowed to drop from the front pages of our newspapers or from the headlines on TV until there has been some sort of resolution.
Unbelievable, summing up by questioning if "it actually took place." State of denial. They deserve all the heat they get for this, the town, due to its inaction on this case – standing by as those with connections try to bury it – are responsible if others are not brought to justice. They are being judged, not by law, but by civil society.
Lock up all of them the Coach,the RAPE CREW they were called...[how nice] the Sheriff, the Proscuter...she was someones Mom...
