Sweet comfort delivered to Newtown
Beth Howard pulled up to Newtown in her 24-foot-long camper, loaded with 240 apple pies.
She dished out pie to kids from Sandy Hook Elementary School, grieving parents and anyone who asked.
She describes herself as an attaché for grief, with her greatest gift being pie “made from love.” Most people simply call her "the pie lady."
“Pie is meant to be shared,” she said. “It’s meant to be given away.”
As she spoke, there was a knock on her door. Women preparing a wake for one of the slain girls would like some pie for mourners.
“Could we give them three pies?” a helper asked.
“Of course,” Howard said. “Will you please put ribbons on them?”

Anderson, thank you for helping us to get to know each of these poor victims in Newton. I love your descriptions of the children. You describe them with the same eloquence, sense of importance and seriousness as you would if they were grown movers and shakers of our world. Such dignity. But it makes sense because they WERE the most important movers and shakers in their families' life. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you personally to report on this story given your own personal loss, but you have certainly been able to be empathetic and sympathetic to these families while still doing your job as a journalist. Very admirable and I hope you know how much your sensitive coverage means to your viewers. Thank you very much. Happy Holidays.

The NRA's response is a knee-jerk response to gun violence...more guns. Arming all schools is ridiculous & unfathomable. How long will all that training take? How long will funding approval take? Help is needed today. Who's going to pay? Tax payers, who's back is already broken? More guns (in schools) only promote the NRA's organization. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I am a gun owner however the NRA's statement to arm teachers and have police in schools
makes as much sense as giving nuclear weapons to every country in the world and expecting
it to be a safer place.

Anderson's interview with a member of Noah Pozner's family (one of the young Newtown victims) on AC 360 about how he had set up a website within 48 hours of the tragedy and began "buying up competing domains" so that donations would go to the two domains he had set up and no others (making sure everyone watching knew the correct addresses) made me think. Alomost ALL the other victim's families are asking for donations to 3rd party charities in the child's name, a common practice. This family just wants money sent to them. The use of the funds is for "funeral expenses and grief counseling" a rather nebulous destination. I hate to say it but this family appears to be trying to cashing in on this horror as fast as possible.
