Jon Hammar, a former U.S. Marine, has been jailed in Mexico since August. He was arrested on his way to Costa Rica for a surfing vacation because of a gun he brought into the country, which he says he had declared with the proper paperwork. CNN's Gary Tuchman reports.

Our State Department is a disgrace! GET HIM OUT... PERIOD!!
So a former marine is stuck in a mexican prison while his income is taxed and handed over to illegals. Tell me this country is not broken.
A Marine that put his life danger for this country and this is how we pay him, lets do something about it! Bring our Marine Back, keep airing this story, if our government doesn't do anything about this I'm pretty sure a few us Marine are gonna go down south to get our Marine back and is not gonna look good for this country !!!
Anderson, I live in Mexico 40 km north of Puerto Vallarta. Inmates from prisons call my neighbors and try to extort money. These are random calls and the inmates don't know who they are calling and are ignored. I know the case about the Marine is different because he is in prison but you seemed surprised at what was happening. By the way, I love living in Mexico.
Anderson,
After being incarcerated in a Mexican Prison, I can tell you first hand that this should not be surprising. Unfortunately, in Mexico, you are guilty until proven innocent. And this process can last 6 months minimum and longer. As for, the US council, what can I say, they are a joke! The parents are doing good in keeping pressure. That is truly the only way they will do there JOB. They should look into treaty transfer, not the best way to go about it but might be a faster way to get him out.
