Tonight on AC360: Remembering Jenni Rivera

Family, friends and fans of Mexican-American music superstar Jenni Rivera are mourning her death in a plane crash in Mexico over the weekend. The 43-year-old Long Beach, California native and six others died in Sunday's crash after she performed at a concert in Monterrey.

"It's hard to accept. It's painful...We're all going to miss my sister," said Pedro Rivera Jr., Jenni's brother.

Hailed as "La Diva de la Banda" or The Diva of Banda Music, Rivera sold 15 million records and won two Billboard music awards, including favorite Mexican music female artist, in just over a decade. She also created a business empire that included Jenni Jeans, Divina Cosmetics and Divina Realty. Rivera also stared in the TV sitcom "I Love Jenni" on Telemundo's mun2 network and was developing a show with ABC.

Her rise to fame started with her selling recordings of her songs at her family's stand at a Los Angeles flea market.

Years later, Rivera was famous for her music and her personal struggles. She was a single mom at 15 and went on to have four more children. She was also divorced three times and was on welfare at one point. Rivera rose above it all and wasn't afraid to share her troubles, which helped her grow her devoted fan base.

Even hours before her death she talked with reporters about how she's overcome so much. "I'm so happy...I can't get up in the negative, which destroys you," she said.

We'll look back at her remarkable life and music career at 8 and 10 p.m. ET.
