Zimmerman lawyer speaks out on bloody photo

George Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, says a bloody photo of his client shows what Zimmerman was going through the night he shot and killed Trayvon Martin.

The picture had previously been given to his defense team as a grainy, black and white image. In the color version they received recently, Zimmerman's injuries are more visible.

"It's frustrating because this type of evidence should have come out day one," says O'Mara. He argues the anger toward Zimmerman would have been quelled if the public had seen the high-resolution photo, which shows "why he reacted the way he did."

A lawyer for Trayvon Martin's family dismisses that assessment because the black and white picture had been released.

It's a fake. Show us the rest of the takes, a side view, and a movie clip. Sorry. I'm expert in Photoshop and this is a fake.

The kid defended himself. Zimmerman got himself a high priced defense attorney, such always paint the victom as the fault of it all, to get attention off their client. It's lawyer 101 to do so. Zimmerman's lawyer can, well tell as many untruths as he wants , and he knows he can. There's no justification for killing that young man! Zimmerman will most likely get away with murder, not because he is innocent, but because Daddy bught him a high priced liar! As for the biggoted first comment.on this article here, it defines your ignorance by writing such here!

This pic still doesn't prove anything. He was the one following Tryvon. Had he run up on me, I have busted him up too. He wanted a reason to kill the kid. He made sure he put him in a position to defend himself and murdered that poor kid. He should have minded his business and listened to the police. Only 3 people know what really happened that day. In the end God has the last word. God bless all of those that have lost a loved one. Good or bad, no one has the right to take a life.

I believe Zimmerman did this to his self....The color picture is surely cropped and looks as if it's fake.
His Lawyer is famed and using it to gain more fame.

The photo doesn't change anything. He was still wrong for what he did. The phone conversation with the dispatch/police today him to not follow the young man. He disregarded that and took matters in to his own hands. He committed unnecessary murder. He is GUILTY OF MURDER and other changes.... Not listening to police/authority etc. Send him to jail for 25 to life.... He deserves that.....

I believe Zimmerman will get convicted of murder,he said he feared for his life what about Trayvon being confronted by an older man profiling him and invading his space,he should have stayed in car like police told him but he was big man with gun ,got his butt whipped and shot unarmed boy!

So, basically, his lawyer says they didn't get x-rays to substantiate Zimmerman's claims on the extent of his injuries. In other words, take George at his word and acquit him.

O'Mara said the blood was "flooding" from his nose. It looked like it was only "flowing" or "running", but, hey...If you ask Zimmerman, he would say it was "skipping".:)

So if a guy is beating the hell out of you and you are armed you are just suppose to "take it like a man"? What if Zimmerman blacked out from the beating and Trayvon still punched and kicked him. There are plenty of incidences of people getting beaten to death once on the ground...I would have shot Trayvon too.

Trayvon was fighting for his life when attacked by a man with a gun with no understanding of why he was being attacked. Being an elderly woman, I hope I'd still bloody my attacker's lip before he killed me.

You must not get out much or care much about evidence. Mr. Zimmerman had retrieved the house number where Mr. Martin was staying.Perfectly reasonable in a gated community and one doesn't recognize someone. Mr. Martin approached Mr. Zimmerman and created the altercation. Mr. Zimmerman feared for his life and protected himself, end of the situation.

It's unlikely that Trayvon suddenly decided to beat a man for no reason. It's also unlikely that Zimmerman ran after the kid with the intent to kill him. The most likely scenario is that Zimmerman approached Trayvon aggressively, a bit overzealous for sure considering he was told not to, and Trayvon overreacted thinking that he was defending himself from some guy who's following him at night. Zimmerman was then put in a situation that he started but could no longer control, and defended himself by shooting trayvon. Basically a colossal misunderstanding.

There is a reason police officers great criminals with "Excuse me, sir!", and not "What are you doing here?!?". Training is everything.

Approaching suspected criminals takes training. Unless you want a bar fight.

The defense only received the black and white photo because the prosecution wants to present this as a black vs white incident.

Does a bloodied nose/lip justify murder??

      No! not murder BUT self-defiance.

The correct question is does the bloodied lip justify killing someone, the bloodied lip defines this killing as manslaughter – not murder, not even 2nd degree murder. Zimmerman should be on trial for manslaughter not murder. This picture also shows the extreme discrimination towards Zimmerman that has been shown, let's not forget that at the time of the killing the media dug up a old mug shot of Zimmerman when he weighed some 80 lbs more and then found a picture of 5'7" 150 martin, when Martin was 6'3" and out weighed Zimmerman by 20 lbs.
It's undeniable Zimmerman has been unfairly treated in this case, for that reason he should walk, and I'll bet the prosecutor will lose her license to practice law.

It's not the bloody nose that matters. It's proof that a serious altercation happened. Who are we to say that someone that got his nose bloodied was not feared for his life ???

Please keep your personal emotions out of your rational and objective judgement.

@Rick, no but it could be a justification for the activation of the Stand Your Ground law.

Really? My first thought is still why did this guy chase the kid down and ignore police recommendations to stay away? What did he think was going to happen when he ran up on a kid in the middle of the night, aside from wanting to have a gun handy? I have no sympathy.

So you're cherry picking your info, Zimmerman ran no one down, Martin sought out Zimmerman and attacked him, based on where the shooting took place collaborates Zimmerman's story that he had given up the search and was returning to his vehicle. The gun shot came out after a struggle – one that eye witnesses have verified – and let's not forget those eye witnesses have been intimidated and some fear for their own lives simply because they told the truth. We are going to find the police made the right call from the beginning on this case. If you have read into the evidence in this case, every single fact that comes out collaborates Zimmerman's story. So the question is was the shooting justifiable or not, that is all. The charge should be man-slaughter not murder as it wasn't murder, and why aren't assault charges being filed against Martin? Let's face it a kid that sneaks up and punches a neighborhood watch patrol in the face isn't anyone that 99% want walking their neighborhoods. Trevon was living thug-life, his end was inevitable, though had his death come at the hands of one of his thug-peers no one would even have given his passing an extra blink.

Andy, the point is not about why he chased the kid down. Chasing a kid down doesn't necessarily lead to a killing.

The question here is: what caused Zimmerman to kill Martin ?

These 2 things may sound related but has to be treated somewhat separately. The case is not about why he followed Martin but why he killed Martin.

OK. He looks like he lost a fight. Be a man about it. Still no excuse to shoot a kid. He took a life because he was less of a man than a teenager, end of story. Can we give Florida back to Spain or is it too late?
