Sen. McCain says he'll block U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice from becoming Secretary of State, if she's selected, because of her statements characterizing the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya as a spontaneous demonstration days after the incident.
"It was obvious to one and all that this was not a "spontaneous demonstration" because in real time they saw that there was no demonstration," said McCain. "Everybody knew that it was an al Qaeda attack and she continued to tell the world through all the talk shows that it was a "spontaneous demonstration" sparked by a video. That's not competence in my view."
Critics point out that McCain and other Republicans defended Condoleezza Rice after she made a case for invading Iraq based on false intelligence about weapons of mass destruction when she was National Security Adviser. Anderson asked the senator if there's a double standard. "I think these are two entirely different cases," said McCain.

Senator McCain
You lost your election, the Republicans lost theirs – GET OVER IT – It is time we do the peoples business and not the partys. Let's stop bickering and go to WORK.
hey maybe we can have these hearing after the "weapons of mass destruction hearings" that the 2000-2008 administration should be subject to. Get in line.
Even the security forces located elsewhere said they mobilized in 20 minutes to get there but it was too late. We are in every country and these thing occur-I don't care buy whom. Thugs, terrorists, nut jobs, we are under the protection of the host government just like all embassies. There are things we don't know-classified information I believe its called and mc cain knows this.
I wonder if it's possible to believe anyone these days.
This from the man that gave us sarah palin. he has no credibility
General Petreaus exlained to the committee yesterday WHY UN Ambassador Rice gave such a comflicting account !
DONT YOU LISTEN MCCAIN !
The CIA edited the information so it wouldnt hinder their persuit of the terrorists, letting them think it was a Muslim revolt and no one was on their heals ! We caught them, so the ploy worked.
All Ambassadore Rice did was follow instructions and read what they told her to read !
Heck, McCain couldnt even contact me after a VA problem, a vet is not important huh John ! This waste of energy is ?
I think Mr. McCain needs to just let the committee handle this and stay away from the TV cameras because when is on TV it just shows how out of touch he is still mad about President Obama winning the election
and yes, they are two totally different cases, both involve the tragic loss of human life, but one of them was on a far larger scale.
She's lying, the President lied to the American people and should be held accountable. It has now evolved in to a cover up.
I personally worked closely with Susan Rice in 1994 when she was a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. This woman is incredibly talented and of the best character. Is it is so strange that people are saying these kind of things.
Bobby, she sure as heck shouldn't be promoted for this ;-).
Hey Bobby, I was with you ! But, yesterday, the CIA admitted they told Rice to lie so they could more easily get after the bad guys ! Makes Obama look bad, but the CIA had the last word on this one !
I hope thats the truth !
HILLARY in 2016, Bill will be her VP ....hahah~
since the fbi is still investigating-and there are such things as classified information, you have no idea if there is a lie or they want to know all the facts. shooting first and asking later hasn't worked out too well for us in the past.
she didn't LIE. . . . that presupposes that she KNEW it was untrue . . . . Rice merely reported on what the 'Intelligence' community had briefed top US officials.
My question is WHY has our Intelligence Community been so wrong yet again as it was in reporting WMD's in Iraq??. . . based upon Condolezza Rice and Powell's insistence that there were, George Bush and Cheney invaded the WRONG COUNTRY costing tens of thousands of lives.
Thank you A. Cooper for the pushing back on C Rices statements on Iraq so we may twice in just 5 minutes an illustration of the double standard and dismissive platform of the Honorable Senator McCain. Excuse me, how many lives were lost in a war begun with false information?
John, you lost your election in 2008, give it a rest. Concentrate on straightening out Arizona first and doing what's right for the United States instead of your political concerns. Your credibility is beginning to border Donald Trump standards.
The American public has to questionwhat happen back then in Bengazi that day and why the Ambassador and his CIA agents were not protected. It is clear that critical region that is already in unstable condition follwing Gadafi removal where a lot of his supporter are still trying to do harm to the revolution. To blame AlQaida or other group is not acceptable. Every body knew the Ambsador was an extra ordinary persion with high talent who acheived trust in Libian people. This act is basically to sway away USA policy in any future cooperation with Libya. Need to know who is behind it require extensive investigation and honest transperancy with the American public.
Something does NOT seem right here. Aside from Rice...it seems the President and H. Clinton have tried to hide the truth, have lied to the American people. They knew within 24 hours (maybe sooner???) it was a terrorist attack and yet for weeks afterward said it was a spontaneous uprising from a movie trailer.
PLEASE CNN, Please stay on top of this story...get to the bottom of this. More than the four men that died, 30 more almost died and many of them were injured!
Is our government really this incompetent when it comes to dealing with terrorism? This is scary to me, an everyday citizen!!!
It feels like a HUGE coverup.
Of course it is a huge cover-up. Now Obama is defending Rice and want to make her Secretary of state, this president is crazy. In the middle of this crisis we need someone strong to defend our country. What he is afraid of? Did he think that this case was not going to take the direction is taking now? We want justice and we will never forget these four American murdered in Benghazi.
Dear SENATOR McCain,
It is called SECRET for a reason...
SHEEZ!!
John McCain lost all credibility as a bipartisan and objective "leader" when he supported and defended the choice of Sara Palin to be "a heartbeat away from the Presidency."
That any representative of the house would accuse any other human being of negligence or incompetence is truly a contradiction. Let the hearings take place and blame will fall where it belongs.
Cooper is on this one. When will Obama quit putting women in front of him to protect him on Benghazi? It's time for Obama to come forward and answer the questions congress has been asking. It's time for him to tell the truth to Susan Rice if he doesn't have the guts to do it himself. Throwing Hillary under the bus on Benghazi is not the way to empower women.
Mr. Cooper, Thank you...it was about time someone asked about the over 6,000 brave soldiers that have died so far by misinformation.
What the hell difference does it make whether they were demontrators, thugs, terrorists or murderers.
They murdered our Ambassador and three other brave Americans.
All that matters is that they are brought to justice. Quit quarrelling over semantics and band together to get these guys. Thats how we do it. That should be how we roll.
Couldn't agree with you more! I'm sick of all the finger-pointing and bullying. The GOP is turning the "United States" in to the "Divided States" and that's not a message we want to send to our adversaries. Bipartisanship should end at our shores, but unfortunately, it seems the opposition in this country is more bent on proving they're still relevant than on doing what's best for our country. Very sad.
