Mayor Bill Akers says Seaside Heights, New Jersey, will need help building from the ground up after the storm. When Anderson Cooper spoke with him Tuesday night, Akers was trying to acquire 100 gallons of diesel fuel to keep the police station and the borough hall operating. The town's evacuation efforts were about 98% complete.
"If you don't see it, you just can't fully understand it and as you're going through it – I'm not ashamed to say I'm overwhelmed. I feel so small against what we have to do going forward here," says Akers about the devastation.
