Fran Townsend: Libyan Ambassador's lack of security shocking

Fran Townsend and Bob Baer say if Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens was on an al Qaeda hit list, he should have been protected by the U.S. government. Both want an investigation into the lack of security.

This is what went down: the attack was coordinated with Muslim imams who were aware of the video ‘The innocence of Muslims’, which had been on YouTube for about six months, and Libyan government security moles who knew where the US safe house was located. On cue for September 11, the imams riled up the crowd, thus providing cover for the Al Qaida operatives to attack first the US consulate in Benghazi and then afterwards the safe house. The US ambassador, Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans were killed in a battle that lasted nearly five hours.

This was a well planned and coordinated attack that the Obama administration should have anticipated with reinforced security measures, especially for that symbolic date.
