Tonight on AC360: Exposing false campaign claims

In a special hour tonight, Anderson Cooper is focusing on presidential campaign ads that present fiction as fact and make claims without evidence. The problem is not just negative ads filling the airwaves and flooding inboxes, it’s false advertising by candidates, and super PACS, who are trying to earn the trust of the voting public.

We’re not taking sides, just reporting the truth. Watch the Keeping Them Honest report at 8 and 10 p.m. ET.

I want to know HOW the Republicans plan to make things better. They talk all the time of WHAT they will do but I have not heard one word of how they plan to do it other then kill whatever Obama has tried to do. What exactly will they do and how will they accomplish it????

    Misinforming the Public:
    re: campaign ads
Noteworthy: priorities ad clearly misleading but the product of a superpac supporting Obama candidacy: agreed
Romney ad regarding false statements (dog whistle welfare ad) done by Romney campaign not imaginary separation
    More than a technical distinction!!!
Re: tax disclosure demand by Demos
noteworthy: President Romney future cabinet candidates would be required to produce seven ( yes 7) years of tax returns; he had apparently provided twenty (20 plus) years when he was being vetted for VP; how is it appropriate to require less now. Where are the journalists? This is stunning. We are told that if they provide 3 years; demos will demand 5 years; if he provides 5 years, demos will demand more. No satisfying these democrats. Frankly, same as presidential appointees might be a credible and reasonable standard. Where are the journalists???
Get used to "President Romney". Between Citizen United will buy it; Successful suppression will guarantee Romney victory. Check Florida votes on county basis this week. Republican leaning counties had registration/voting hours extended; democratic leaning counties had tie breaking vote by Secty of State to restrict and limit voting. You have to be kidding. Where are the journalists? This will be a more egregious election than 2000; that was amateur hour compared to current brilliant Republican soon-to-be succes story in November.

In one of the last primary debates, Romney stated he would release multiple years of his taxes. He released one year and an estimate for this year. He did not do as he said he would and now he is refusing to release more. This shows us what kind of man he is!

I still do not agree with you on this. Why aren't you making Romney's false ads your focus? Just wondering, where is the superpac for Obama ad running besides CNN and Fox News?

What I would love to see you focus on is not these political ads and what he said and the other said but what's really going on in these states with Republican governors and legislators. What I'm talking about is .. . voter ID laws (voter suppression) and especially Ohio where the republican leaning counties are extending early voting but with democratic leaning counties these republicans are cutting early voting. Would love to see some extensive research on this on your show. This is the heart of our democracy. .. very, very important. This should not be happening but it is and many states are trying to make it harder for people to vote instead of making it easier. Let's focus on what's really important.

There is an easy way to settle Mitts tax discussion. Mitt should release his tax statements for the last 10 years. President Obama released his birth certificate. Let's put it all to rest, release the tax statements!!!

Mitt Romney and the GOP along with the tea party republican congress have consistently lied and defamed president Obama on a daily basis . Now that the adds run by Bill Burton and his super pac are hitting old Mitt hard and are having an effect on Mitt , you and all of your counterparts are up in arms and coming to Mitt`s aid with that old analogy that " both campaigns " indulge in untruths .
I see that Kevin Madden has resurfaced to lie and spin for Mittens .

Newt Gringrich just stated that President Obama would gladly give the taxpayers money to people for doing absolutely nothing – well I think we are already doing that by giving the Congress and Senate money – they haven't done anything in a long time – and I do not blame this on the President – and I don't think we should be paying these people for the rest of their lives when some have not worked a full 20 or 30 years – it should be based on time of service.

Anderson, when is someone going to discuss the fact that if Mitt Romney paid not taxes during the the years that they say he did it through the tax loopholes that Harry Reid allowed ro be voted in. Why they and the President done nothing to close those loopholes that have allowed individual to avoid taxes and what have they done nothing to close down the loopholes that American company's use use to avoid takes that have moved job overseas to avoid taxes? Who os more morally bankrupt. those that use them? of those that created them., know they exist and have done nothing to change them

Regarding Harry Reid's comments on Romney's tax returns are we now to believe that under the Obama run government top level officials have access to all of our tax records to disclose information to the American public?
