Tonight on AC360: Welfare warfare

Mitt Romney surrogate Newt Gingich talked with Anderson tonight about the uproar over the Romney campaign ad that claims Pres. Obama is "gutting" welfare reform.

You may recall, back in 1996, when Gingrich was House Speaker he worked with Pres. Clinton to get welfare reform passed by Congress.

Fast-forward 16 years to today and there are accusations the Obama administration is trying to change the law.

"Under Obama's plan, you wouldn't have to work and wouldn't have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check," the narrator of the ad says.

At issue is an Obama administration proposal sent in a memo last month that allows states to "test alternative and innovative strategies, policies, and procedures that are designed to improve employment outcomes for needy families."

The ad blasting the proposal has been widely criticized for being inaccurate, and tonight Gingrich backed away from the firm assertions in it. Watch the preview and joins us for more of the Keeping Them Honest interview  at 8 and 10 p.m. ET.

And as hard as it is for out-of-work people who aren't on welfare to find a job because corporations don't need the Middle Class anymore.... I'm sorry if all this somehow means Callista has to drive around in last year's Jaguar...

Obama has done more for the common people than anyone in the last 50 years. Gingrich has been investigated by the ethics committee Obama has not. Gingrich life style is a poling. Please do have him onthe air ever. Republicans care only about working Republicans! The Republicans put America in this economic situation and Obama had to bail out Banking Industry and the common people will have to pay the bill like always.
I am 58 years old and I am ashamed of America. We need to stop sending free money out of the US until we are healthy with jobs.I am sick of talking to someone in India for customer help in all areas. we need vote Democratic until the US is back on top stop out sourcing jobs. I am going to buy only American made products China quality does compare to American second products. Clothes from China suck! wake America. Dennis Watson Florida USA

I cannot subscribe to comments about health care made by politicians whose specialized program is immune to whether we stay with "ObamaCare" or revert back to the previous system. How do we start a federal reform to remove their extravagent program instead of arguing about how to change ours?

Wait Newt said that Obama is making it easier for people to be loafers, pretty much. What about him trying to make it easier for out of school students who are looking to upgrade their way of life. Sorry society doesn't want to work hard labor just so you can get a tax cut to send your kids to a private school. Nothing is worse than seeing the boss's son LOAF around... because he doesn't understand the value of a dollar. Hey, just one mans opinion.
