RidicuList: Santa problems in Disney

Disney takes exception to one man's resemblance of Santa Claus.

    Are you all kidding me? For one, he was NOT dressed up as Santa, and two, he wasn't looking for children to take pictures with him, they went to him, and lastly, as a parent, you can SEE he is not in costume, and as the one who is taking the picture, you probably had to say, "Can I get a picture with you and my son/daughter?". Right???

    On the other hand, maybe it wasn't that they thought he was any kind of threat, it could have just been the fact that Disney bought the rights to Christmas and Santa long ago.

    This story reminds me of my visit to Disneyland in 1969 at the age of 17. A couple of my friends and I went on the boat ride. There was a boat of Navy sailors behind us. So being teenagers we started a water fight with the sailors behind us. It was truly a lot of fun. As we exited the ride gate Goofy walked up to us and took us to the Disneyland Police station. We were all separated and "interrogated". After the interrogations, we were all told we were told we could never visit Disneyland again. And I have never been back.

      "Goofy walked up to us and took us to the Disneyland Police station". That may be the single greatest thing I've ever heard in my life. Thanks for sharing. My friends and I got into some trouble at Disneyworld once, but we were just returned to our parents...your experience is just SO much better.

    Really you have issues with this? What if some pervert were dressed as "Santa" and posed with kids in your park? Would you want that liability? Disney doesnt know who he is!!! They havent done a background check of all guests. They dont want any lawsuits due to some misconduct in their parks!! I totally understand their point of view!!!

    Disney has every right. People may assume that he's somehow part of the Disney experience when he's really just a lone wackjob who delights in the attention.

    You usually hit thentarget with the Ridiculist stories. Not tonight. I'm a retired law professor. This year I went to Disneyland with grandchildren ages 4 and 5. The experience sent my lawyer senses buzzing. I thought the Disney park must be a huge magnet for pedophiles from a hundred miles around. This is a serious security concern and a great liability threat.
    Hooray for Disney security. The only possible outcome for Tom Kringle is a message to leave other people's kids alone in the park.
