KTH: Countrywide bought influence

A congressional report shows some members of Congress, their staffers and other government employees received special preferential treatment on loans from former mortgage-lender Countrywide Financial.  They received “sweetheart deals” by being part of the “VIP program.”

Everyone knows these things go on in politics. I just think it's a shame that the media for the most part looks the other way. ( advertising?) I would like to see a report on past polititions, their net worth when they went into office and net worth 2 years after leaving office. It's very hard for corps to just give money so they promise to take care of them after they leave office. 250K – 1mil for speaking engagements. Thats a joke! I also believe that the Supreme Court is a joke. A Justice should be elected by secret ballot of Constitutional scholors from all the Universities in the country, not by politions. IF INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISTS WERE GOING AFTER THE CORRUPT POLITITIONS WE COULD CLEAN UP WASHINGTON IN A HURRY. IT IS THEIR JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!! We the tax payer can not do it AND THE POLITITIONS WON'T!!!!!!!!

This type of behavior will never go away. Remember "WHERE THERE IS MONEY, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE CORRUPTION".... The only way to deal with this, is to have things such as term limit, oversight, checks and boundary and hold people accountable..... We should all be worried about a non-sustainable way of life for our future the rate we are going...... Democrats or Reublicans.

Our democracy DEMANDS and informed, educated, and involved electorate. Clearly this behavior of elected officials happens when they realize there's no one monitoring, viewing, or even paying attention to what they're doing. As long as the voting population keeps the indifferent posture they now have, we'll see this continued abuse of power and a 'thumbing of their noses' at the country...or worse.
