As a native of Florida my knee jerk reaction when it comes to Florida and crime is Floriduh! I do not have inside information into this killing and I do agree that it is easy to become wrapped up in a conviction of public opinion with what we do know for facts. Zimmerman followed a teenager after being told not to do so, and had he not followed Trayvon after being instructed not to do so, I am fairly certain Trayvon would be alive, Zimmerman would not be in jail and this story would not be in the news.
The unfortunate reality is that Trayvon is dead because an armed adult who claims "self-defense" under a stand your ground law after willful refusal to follow the instructions of a 911 dispatcher does raise serious doubt and question. Only Zimmerman is alive to give an account and we must assume it will not beneficial for Zimmerman to give an honest account of the minutes leading up to the death of Trayvon.
With the ongoing debate over the guilt of George Zimmerman in today's top headlines, we must remember the founding principle of our American judicial system, "innocent until proven guilty". This case is all too reminiscent of the Rodney King case in which the media showed only a portion of the video without showing Rodney King taking swings at the officers. The Trayvon Martin case is a tragedy that must be examined by our judicial system without personal opinions and without speculation of racial bigotry. Let the American justice system do their part without everyone pointing their fingers on who is guilty.
It is one step, but nothing will bring Trayvon back! god bless the martin family
Zimmerman was told not to follow Trayvon by the 911 dispatch. But he did anyway, Why? Zimmerman had the gun and Trayvon was confronted by Zimmerman because Zimmerman had the gun. At the start of his shift Zimmerman was armed and at no time was Zimmerman in fear for his life.
1. Dispatcher told Zimmerman not to pursue suspect.
2. Trayvon was found face down with his hands underneath his body.
3. Entry point of gunshot will speak volumes when revealed (was he shot in the back?)
