Video: Campaigning to stop warlord Joseph Kony

AC360's Miquel Marquez reports on the Ugandan warlord, Joseph Kony, who is responsible for horrific atrocities involving child soldiers; and a charity called Invisible Children that is bent on stopping him.

    Anderson, as a broadcast & social media professional I was disappointed to watch your segment on Kony 2012. In this age of (social) media hype & hysteria I kinda depend on you to "keep 'em honest", but you certainly didn't make a serious effort on this story. There is no doubt the tragedy in Uganda deserves a harsh light shone on it, and any focus on the problem is positive...but I was suspicious of the campaign when I first saw it because it seemed too staged. After seeing the interview with Russell & Keesey...I felt worse, not better. They seemed far too excited about the effort than the result, more pleased with themselves than someone with a true noble passion should be. Miguel glossed over the fact that they may not do things in a typical fashion & may not fit the model of a 501-c3...and they admitted the same. But having worked with non-profits all my professional life I have a hard time swallowing 30% of an organizations budget to comp & travel. It certainly is a different way of getting it done, but just because they've been able to generate a lot of PR & a hot viral video...that shouldn't give them a pass. Will you dig deeper into the accounting, even though the general population is caught up in the wave of hype? I may be cynical, but isn't that your role... keeping them honest?

    Invisisble Children continues to provide confusing information about northern Uganda. The region has been conflict free for 5+ years. Kony has not been in n. Uganda in years. Any campaign should focus on the DRC and CAR. The answers for Kony will come from Africa, not a western NGO; the Ugandan government had many opportuntiies to dismantle and capture Kony and his commanders, but instead forced 1.5m people into IDP camps for over a decade. Museveni is only interested in western money and weapons. This type of hype does a diservice to the people of n. Uganda who are moving forward and rebuilding their lives and communities. There are no more nite commuters, abductions, rebel violence. Let's focus on what is necessary to support the people of the region create sustainable development, that is the way to ongoing peace and justice.

    This is so horrible what is going on in this part of Africa. These kind of atrocities have to be stopped. We are so lucky to be living in America.
