Letters to the President #1103: 'Feeling stronger everyday'

Reporter's Note: The Republicans are duking it out, and the president is waiting out their eventual winner. In the meantime, he can read my daily letters.

Dear Mr. President,

The Republicans were certainly throwing some heavy punches in their latest debate, weren't they? I know that some Democrats love the spectacle and like to think the Repubs are just beating each other up, but I'm not so sure.

Seems to me that whoever comes out of that donnybrook might be a pretty tough hombre by the time he tangles with you.

As you know, I run a good deal, and when the distances are long enough, as in marathons or longer, training books often stress tapering off before the race. As a rule, I think that is a good idea. On the other hand, I've sometimes had some of my best runs when I am all beaten up; when I've run way too many miles, over way too many weeks, and I haven't tapered off at all.

So keep that in mind as you watch the Republicans spar.

Far from getting weaker, the eventual nominee may just be getting stronger every day.

Hope your weekend is off to a good start. Call if you can.

Regards,
Tom
