"Do nothing" Congress: Join the Live Chat

Tonight, we’re following what critics are calling the “do nothing” Congress. On the brink of a partial government shutdown, House members are on vacation next week. We’re Keeping Them Honest. Plus, Amanda Knox’s appeal trial started today. We spoke with Amanda’s mother about the possibility of her daughter walking free. And the sky is falling! NASA says the falling satellite could hit the United States.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

very happy to hear the hikers detained in iran were finally released and reunited – it is kind of a new beginning for them, isn't it?

I truly hope Amanda Know (and her boyfriend if innocent) are found not guilty.

From all of the reports & stories i have read, there never was Any tangible evidence against them.

    Her trial was a travesty!

      Emily,
I think you miss the point........Amanda Knox did not kill her roommate, one of DNA says that is not match as her who was wrong imprison as there is other real killer did it.

      September 23, 2011 at 8:46 pm |
      • Emily

        Hi Megan,
Amanda Knox has been found Guilty already of killing her roommate.
The perception that much of the public has of her, is not a good one.
The "Foxy Knoxy" persona, etc. didn't leave much sympathy for her with the public.

I agree, you don't boo people who are asking hard questions. Dignity and decorum no longer exist in these venues for some reason. Besides, the spectators can wind up skewing candidates presentations of the answers and it makes the candidates appear as bigots or what-have-you when they aren't. Shame on spectators.

Re dana's statement: it was only two people ... Sometimes it only takes one or two to change the whole tone and environment – only one or two can so often spoil things for many. Often these people are bullies (or seem to act like it). So sad when it is coming from adults who are supposed to be setting examples.

It was unspeakable moment, past three debates we seen that but no one form the party condemn these action and their excuse that is two three people

        September 23, 2011 at 8:36 pm |
        • Emily

That's also sad! That the candidates wouldn't even condemn those actions.

Everyone in Congress needs to be held accountable. Anyone in Congress we need to start fresh. Out with the old in with the new if this is your position of not understanding what your job is! Please remember why you take this position. It is not to be bought but to work for the American people. When you are in session then you debate and talk thngs out work hard to get things done then put them on paper and work to make them law. Please stop avoiding each other for your benefit, you work for us!
Thank you Anderson for keeping them honest.

I think a Mitt Romney-Ron Paul blend. They could temper each other. Mitt is very focused and thoughtful, Ron Paul is very smart and his ideas really make you think. Libertarian philosophy is something to ponder. There are way too many questions about what role government would play – he just says what they shouldn't be doing.

Anderson,I have a question and comment, Have disaster funding ever been used as a trade off?why did they put it up for debate? It seems ridiculous to cut jobs when so many are needed to fund disaster relief,it makes no sense. How could anyone agree to what the republicans have done, take one group out of a disaster and put another group in a disaster,no matter how you say it ,it just don't make sense. Also after hearing how much or shall I say little time they spend working,I'm completely disgusted by both democrats and republicans,it's insane actually insane, that's why so many people are under such stress and depression over what is happening in our country. We pay their salary while they ruin ours, somethings got to give.

    September 23, 2011 at 8:18 pm |
    • Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA

      Hello Gretchen......
Good point question........ Congress republicans who are having enough of disaster fund, they don't want it anymore,. that is reason is people are spending so much all the country as well. They won't help all disaster fund people, That will be hostage our money or dollars, they are so greedy anyway!

      September 23, 2011 at 8:25 pm |
      • Chris

Actually it hasn't been debated in the past because it was not purposely isolated as it was recently just to make a point.

        September 23, 2011 at 8:44 pm |
        • Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA

I can't believe that Perry is having to defend this.....
There was an opt out option which was completely ignored!

    September 23, 2011 at 8:17 pm |
    • Chris

Agree. Opt out was there from day one.

      September 23, 2011 at 8:43 pm |
      • Emily

It was very frustrating to see that it was not given any attention at all.
They made it sound like everyone was forced to have this vaccination.
I think that Perry did the correct thing; along w/the opt out option, and he gets all that flack for it.
Is it any wonder that things are the way they are?

        September 23, 2011 at 8:49 pm |

There's always so much nit picking instead of focusing on the real issues.

          September 23, 2011 at 8:54 pm |
          • Emily

What's so sad about that, is it seems that's what the audiences are looking for! All the nit picking, etc....they just feed off it. Sad when it's coming from the next potential President!

Another radical change – no special interest groups or lobbyists allowed influence of any kind. I'm sure Congress would find plenty of time to conduct the nations critical business without those distractions. LOL

    Evening Anderson & Team 360.

    Hello blogger friends!!

THANK YOU Anderson for telling the Truth about our Congress! We need to rescind their salaries OR let's Not pay taxes until we get Representation (sound familiar?)! Maybe another Revolution Is necessary.

Today i just could Not write, but i did call my Sens. & Rep. with a message about taxes, small businesses, social security, medicare, etc. Of coursse i either received an ans. machine or a staffer!

Great panel discussion so far, thanks again Anderson!

    September 23, 2011 at 8:10 pm |
  37. Emily

When there are these extremes on each side, it's frustrating that the Congress is only interested in appealing to those people. I'd think those extremes would meet up with each other when they fell of the edge of their extremes.

Everybody gets x dollars for their campaigning each election year regardless. I guess we can be as wild as the tea party groups. I'm just getting silly here, but we seem to have some silly stuff going on in Congress. Silly stuff takes silly measures? LOL

Clinton figured out to work with Gingrich and Reagan with Tip O'Neil. It's a leadership failure that Obama can't with Boehner.

Good to see you again, Mike. It's been along time since I've seen you here.
I think that there's been very poor "leadership" from Obama.

      Hi Mike, welcome back.
Good point. Boehner has a reputation over the years of working quite across the aisle so it is rather strange.

      September 23, 2011 at 8:42 pm |
    • Kaytee

Kind of hard to work with someone whose only objective is to see that you do not get re-elected! That is all that Boenher and his ilk wants. They will not work with Obama. They do not want him to succeed at anything, and that has been said by them over and over.
