The costumes are from a comic series named Astrix (guy on right) and Oblix (guy on left). The series is well known in Europe, and used stateside for teaching Spanish and French. The characters generally get into odd situations due to Oblix's actions most of the time, and are extracted by Astrix's thinking ahead/ quick wit.
technically its not really fair to ridicule the parody because if you had read asterix and obelix then you would have known that he was comparing the way he acted to the way that obelix acted through the series... but oh well...
So typically French! They can be as crude as they want to be and it's supposed to be either funny or "art." But the rest of the world, to the French, is so much less "civilized" than they are. *yawn*
If Depardieu is dressed like this in the add,its because he plays in the movie Asterix ,very known in France for this role.
He asks in the add for a "sanglier"(I don t know the name in english ,because his stomach hurt and he is very hungry!!!
