Anderson will reporting live tonight from Battery Park, New York. Much of Lower Manhattan is under a mandatory evacuation order that takes effect tomorrow afternoon. Hurricane warnings are now posted from North Carolina to Massachusetts as Irene approaches the U.S. We'll look at how residents all along the east coast a preparing for the storm. We'll also get insight on what Irene could do to New York City's skyscrapers and subway system. And meteorologist Chad Myers will have the latest from the National Hurricane Center on Irene's potential path this weekend.

Here are some of them:
1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Good Night Everyone! Stay safe in the "Stormy Weather!" May we all have a safe cozy weekend!
BTW,
Please stay safe for us and Be careful on East Coast people!!!!!! 🙂
Will be watching over the weekend. Stay safe, Anderson!
oh my – don't rats start running when they sense water coming? the question to ask is ... "where are the rats evacuation FROM?" (and then stay away from there). rats are actually quite intelligent and have incredible survival instincts and abilities.
Good night everyone. Everyone stay safe and anyone in the path of the hurricane please heed all the warnings and instructions.
It's unfortunate that Hurricane Irene should be hitting NYC on the anniversary of Katrina.
Thank you & good night Anderson & Team 360. I pray that NYC does not get hit Hard, that the storm becomes much weaker.
Good night fellow writers. I wish peace & safety, especially for those of you in the path of the storm,. My thoughts will be with you all.
I also pray that they catch Gadaffi & sons/families ASAP, so Lybia can move forward.
Good luck East Coast. Stay safe.
Stay safe Anderson.
Good night everyone,
hope everyone is safe, My brother is in NY and it seems we will all be touched by this storm in some way. Try to post and let us know your OK next week.
People had no warnings in the 1938 New England hurricane like they have now.
Good night Anderson! Good night Everyone. Stay safe and take care of yourselves. Help each other.
Gloria, stay safe! This will pass.
Have a safe weekend everyone please stay safe ! Goodnight Anderson i hope you have a sfe weekend and everyting will be ok
I've been through this. What I missed most was showers and air conditioning. Then my son who also lives down here got a big generator and we all went to his house. Most people used to this have generators to run the fridge, air, etc. It takes a while to get the power back in a huge outage.
Battery park looks nice view
i think just the loss of power and shortage of last-minute supplies (both food and repairs) are going to surprise a lot of people – the storm is huge based on meteorologists' descriptions – the worst case scenarios sound a tad scary
Everyting is shutting down even the broadway plays the city that never sleeps this is really bad
I wonder if NYC will be subject to flash flooding?
Wow, those pictures of all that water flooding in NYC and it wasn't anything like this hurricane will be.
It's scary Sharon.
Yes, Sharon, the thought of how much water could flood the subways is very scary. It could take a month or more to pump out the whole system, not to mention then cleaning up debris and checking All of the electrical items in that system.
Yup, It is........ I agree...... Sharon!
I've all sorts of questions about NYC skyscrapers and gale force winds. Sounds like it won't be like 1938.
I am hoping that the force of this storm will fall off......
Me too Janis, me too!
This is scary!
Best of luck Gloria.
Try to post Monday so we know your alright.
Yes, everyone in the path or who has loved ones who are, let us know later if you're okay.
You bet!
Take care. It will pass.
My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family & friends all of the weekend.
Please post Mon. likke Grant said so we know you are alright.
God bless you.
The east coast has done a good job in preparing for the worst–hopefully the storm will have less impact than expected.
Some of the poeple tha that Susan Candiotti interviwed don't want to leave thier homes depite the evacutaion notice
Imagine all that stuff from the Bahamas footage floating in the water with you if you were caught in a storm surge. That's terribly dangerous.
Does NY and New England usually get hurricanes? When was the last one?
1938 was the last time NY experienced something like this.
Lori,
Only NY hit hurricane around since 1938.
I remember a hurricane in the 1960's when i was living in Bucks County, PA, just outside of Philly. It was at tropical storm strength.
I was a teenager and found it pretty frightening and we were pretty far inland,.
The lines of traffic trying to get out of the costal area were so long the frantic pace of it's so scary
my adrenalin levels are rising a little just seeing some of the storm rain in the coverage shots – trying to imagine being somewhere in the path – got a few shivers
Thanks@Megan ihave missed everyone too ! The eye of the storm through the satelite is amzing ad terriying as i saw on the news today
Thanks@Megan ihave missed everyone too ! Nothing like this has happened to NYC in along number of years i hope everyone has prepared for this .
Welcome, Michelle...... Yes, They are prepare to be ready when hurricane comes right away, If they disobey all the local & state to leave, That will be serious warning!!!!!!
Greetings everyone,
Michelle,
Indeed, it has been a long time since New York had a hurricane pass through (1930s). That's why mindset is important because there is always a general belief in places where hurricanes are rare that it will never happen. The key is being prepared as advised by Local Officials, the Weather Channels etc. because after the hurrucane passes so many basic needs can become inaccessible. Being prepared makes a big difference.
Hi Anderson! Hi Everyone! Good evening.
There are so many people living in the coastal areas of the East Coast. I heard that the impact of Irene's path to the coastal population would be the same as several times the entire population of Australia. Amazing.
That's true, Janis........ Good point there!!!
Wow Janis, that is an amazing statistic!
Everyhing is shuting down the subays and how will poeple be able to cope with this storm
Evening Anderson & Team 360.
Hello blogger friends!
I finally spoke to my little sister who lives at Kill Devil Hills (one of the outer banks island). Of course, i knew she was going to stay. She has promised to stay in touch as much as she can. She says that 50% of the islanders are staying (go figure).
Thank God CNN has a reporter at Kill Devil Hills so i will have some idea how she will be doing. Needless to say, i am very worried.
I hope all goes well.
Agree – and wishing all those on the East Coast in the path of hurricane Irene, a "safe passing".
Oooh Starr. That's a dangerous situation for her but I understand the behavior. It's always the water that gets you though–I hope she'll be safe from those surges.
thank you Grant & Sharon. She tells me she is 10ft. up on pilings, but doesn't seem to know what the tidal surge will be.
She makes me crazy sometimes, however, she has survived 3 other hurricanes in the past. My fingers and toes are crossed!
Hope she stays safe. Glad she's going to stay in touch with you.
Thanks Jans. She has a charger for her cell phone in her car. But that will only work if the cell towers are still standing.
I love her dearly, but this is a little nerve-racking!
Starr,
Anderson and I hope your sister will be safe for sure, our thoughts and prayer with your sister as well..... I hope everything are ok........ Be careful! 🙂
Hello everyone.
Been following the Irene coverage most of this PM. Fascinating how much science is involved. People need to listen to officials and get away from the coastal areas.
I hope NYC gets spared the worst maybe it will not impact the city so much i hope
Good evening everyone,
The press talks a lot about the category of the hurricane and i understand that it is a great measure of it's strength but on Sunday and Monday it is not a term we will hear on the ground. We'll be talking about finding loved ones, destroyed houses, and economic recovery. Unfortunately the people who assumed a Cat 1 is survivable are the one likely to experience some of the worst losses.
I think you may be right Grant. I have relatives in New York and some who stay down on the coast who were taking it lightly and said "we don't even board up for a Cat. 2' and others saying they're going to have a hurricane party. But I have noticed that most people have left when told to.
My real concern is for the cities. Fflooding into the subways and low lying areas could be devestating in Phila., NYC & Boston.
My prayers that people will Listen and not be harmed and take care of their pets too.
Grant,
Good point there....... That will be more worst damage than before...... That's right, Grant!!! 🙂
It birngs back memories of years past of Anderson reporting out in hurricanes ,
Yes, I remember him almost blowing away too. He's lucky for now to be out of it.
Remember when he was within a few feet of a giant piece of sheet metal blowing around like a paper.
Hey Grant, i defintely remember that. I forget who he was with that grabbed him and pulled him out of the way of that metal sign.,
I'll never understand people's facination of covering hurricanes.
Yes I do. We can laugh now but it was foolishly dangerous.
Yes, I remember Anderson and our CNN's John Zarella were there in Florida and other places many years ago, Including NOLA! That right, Michelle!!! 🙂
The waves that were crashing in the background earlier in Long Island during the newsroom shot today looked preety intense
Hello Anderson and bloggers
Pleas e stay sfaer Anderson during this storm
Hi Michelle!!!
Welcome back tonight, we missed you...... Anderson already know what he have prepare his place or work as well..... He is so smart guy! 🙂
Anderson,
Hi! It's great to see you from Battery Park in NYC–very lovely view.
–Not a good forecast for the hurricane. I pray everyone stays safe, and that damage along the coast is minimal.
I agree with you, Paula......... Not good sign for them..... my thoughts exactly what you said! 🙁
Hellooooo everyone and Anderson!!!!
Thanks for coming in for join us tonight! 😀
Happy Thursday night!!!
:Warning!!!!!!!: North Carolina slammed by Hurricane Irene today!
Anderson,
I agree with you....... Sunset is so beautiful I love!!!!!! 🙂
Good evening everyone. When my daughter in law dropped off my grandkids for the weekend I said for her to come in, sit down, and join me watching the every 10 second update on the hurricane. Hope it's not as bad as predicted but it sure is getting alot of press. Prayers for all the people in it's path.
Good Evening Everyone! Greetings!
