Reporter's Note: The president is taking a break from work and so am I; although I am still writing my daily letter to the White House and he's still ignoring it so, in that sense, we're each still attending to duties.
Dear Mr. President,
Well, sadly we are preparing to take our elder daughter back to college.
We love the education she is getting at Georgia Tech, and it is undeniably one of the very best schools in the land. If either of your daughters takes an interest in science or technology, they simply could not do any better than looking into GT. She is certainly thrilled with her whole experience there.
But, all that said, we also loved having her home for the summer. Her little sister seemed happier in every way, and I suspect both her mom and I did too. And now she is leaving again.
The problem is not just that she is going, but also how each time she goes away it reminds us that our younger girl is getting ever closer to following. Sigh. I suppose that is just the way it goes, but it doesn't make us happy.
On the other hand, we managed to work in a wonderful and much delayed short family vacation. (I mean the vacation was short; not our family). For a few precious days we actually (gasp!) just lazed around on a beach. The only real business was getting up for breakfast and getting ready for dinner. Pretty sweet.
So maybe that will ease the sting a bit as we load the car and head out. And there is this: I don't forget for a single day how lucky we are to have a healthy, happy family, full of love and good times...a home worth coming home to each time one of us must go away.
Hope all is going well with your vacation. I'm trying pretty hard to not think about business for a few more days, so my letters will remain rather casual, but as always if you wish to call, feel free.
