It was an ugly day on Wall Street. The Dow plunged 512 points, its worst one-day decline since the 2008 financial crisis. What's fueling the sell-off and should you be worried about your investments? We'll talk it over with our money experts. Plus, a guilty verdict in Warren Jeffs sexual assault trial. Jeffs represented himself in court and pulled off an interesting closing argument. And, see who we add to our RidicuList.

Here are some of them:
1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.

One of your panelists last night (8.5.11...Ali?) said: "S&P couldn't reverse their decision because they had already shared the down grade with folks on Wall Street". I suspect this "sharing" occurred as early as last Sunday, certainly by Wednesday night. This is massive insider trading. Not a peep from your panel.....what gives? Keeping them honest?
Actually the quote is from John King: "And what Treasury officials are saying and other administration officials are saying is that S&P had made its decision, ***had told some people in the financial industry and in the markets that it was about to do*** the downgrade and then simply refused to change its mind when they rebutted the analysis."....http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1108/05/acd.01.html....so S&P admits to what effectively is insider trading.
I like you guys, but the fact that S&P "had told some people in the markets" what it was going to do before it did it is a huge story. Potentially a $2 trillion insider trade (ironic that's the size of the S&P's "error").
how can we get a solution to the debtwhen the republicans are campaigning. solution: change congresstional terms to 4 years, save money, get more done.
Anderson you are great.
Ross Perott Warned America in 1992. All of us on the trade agreement. Well, we are here now. Republicans and Democrats Sold America. We was fine until 2 Presidents Sold America. Remember "Made in America By Americans"????
Thats why we are broke.
Everyone in the world acts like this is not what did America in. It is!!!!! I bet CNN will never do a story on this!
How can we expect someone who is more dedicated to the party than to US care about the average American? Maybe if some of them had to walk in our shoes... The "Party of No" should consider packing if they're not going to actually do anything, and if the Congress can't take care of business, perhaps it's time "we the people" did something about it. It's our constitutional right and responsibility.
Good Night -Everyone!!!-

The Virginia Tech news today was scary. Not again, it really was bad news to hear this AM.
I don't think we can presume we are privy to jeffs' thougt processes – only his words, behaviors and the vibes he gave off even while not speaking
Anderson,
Me either, I can't understand what Warren Jeff's attorney Emily talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She doesn't know about anything who have poilo!!!!
Good reporting and discussion on the Warren Jeffs trial, Anderson.
When it comes to jobs we have to have some sense of economic history. How many small factories that make shovels
or tools or furniture, loacted in small towns have closed in the past 10 to 15 years? How many emerging growth investment funds that invest in Asia and South America, have cropped up in the last 10 or 15 years? The point is that the growth of goods and services from oversees along with the failure of U.S. compaines to compete has suppressed
employment levels. And if investers, along with many companies, prefer to invest their funds oversees, we will suffer from high unemployment levels and underutilization of our resources.
Walmart, are we allowed to blame them?
Good point!!
I've read your posts tonight and I agree with your insights. Thanks for another view on this economic mess we are all in.
Tom, you are absolutely correct! Some of the America daily use items produced in other countries (CHINA) include Male & Female clothing, all footwear (Shoes), bedding (Sheets/pillow cases/blankets), Kitchen utensils, children's school books, canned fruits and vegetables, Highway and street building machines, AUTOMOBILES, many public transportation vehicles and the list goes on and on.
America pays Billions EVERY month for the above items. And America does that with CREDIT! How many Toyotas, BMW, Hyundai's, Nissans, Mazda's, Subaru's, Lexus, VWs, KIAs, Infinities have been purchased in the last four years? What is the total number of foreign cars owned by the America Public?
The above cost are not considered when the cry' (It's cheaper), is used. And, what about the thousands of VISAs given out to foreign countries so that their people can come to America and work? Or the Help Desk response when you call for product support and the call goes to India. More dollars out of American pockets as well as job lost.
All of those purchases were paid with US Dollars, mostly in the form of Credit. Neither congress or the White House made the above purchase – the AMERICAN PEOPLY did. And this has been going on for more than ten years. America has given her jobs and the US dollar to foreign countries, not congress
but American business firms and the American people.
Last note, 80% of the toilets in America are purchased from foreign companies
Anderson is so good at analysis and critique. Good interview with Jeffs lawyer.
