As Congress takes a five-week summer recess, as many as 74-thousand workers could be without a paycheck, thanks to infighting in Washington. Lawmakers are at odds over a routine stop-gap funding bill for the F-A-A, and instead of approving a plan, they left Capitol Hill for vacation. We're keeping them honest. Plus, the prosecution has rested in the Warren Jeffs sexual assault trial, after playing another disturbing audio tape in court today. Some jurors were visibly upset when they heard it. American by Common Sense, Politician by mistake... mistake made by we American's that put them in office! Let's pass a bill to allow M/M Jack & Jill USA to attend Congressional sessions – we hired them so they work for us, right? My manager is responsible for my job performance – who is taking responsibility for theirs? I really don't understand why they think CNN and other news outlets are 'conjecturing' that the American people is tired of the bi-partisan, political mess that is Washington, D.C. – we really are sick of it and I suggest none of them get re-elected!! We have the numbers in the Common Sense vs. Politician teams – we can keep sending the message every election for eternity until the message is heard and acted on... beyond sad....

Not all of Congress is ignoring the FAA issue. Reid sent a letter to Boehner TODAY demanding a short term extension of the FAA authorizations so that people could go back to work and Congress could resolve their differences after the recess without people suffering in the meantime. He also indicated his willingness not to challenge the rural airport closings. The REAL fight is over the union-busting provisions the House GOP added to the bill.

Hi! Computer trouble, unfortunately.
Fascinating program tonight. It's good to see the update on Egypt–so much has happened there in a relatively short amount of time.
Why are we worried? I have not even heard of this crisis until tonight. The big thing was the debt ceiling. My point is, people are so worn out with the last weeks crap, they aren't even concerned. Crappy as it is, perfect timing by congress. Like releasing big news right before a weekend. Sad.....
We are worried because 80k people are not receving paychecks right now solely because the GOP in the House is trying to tie the FAA bill to rolling back long-standing labor rights and unionization rules and causing us to lose $1B in tax revenue that the airlines are simply pocketing right now because it's been incorporated into their ticket prices but cannot be collected without the authorization.

Amazing that Congress decides to recess without resolving the FAA reauthorization. So as our elected representatives are conducting fund raising activities or golfing or whatever it is our arrogant "leaders" do, thousands of FAA employees are either working without pay or not working at all, hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue from the airlines are lost each week, and tens of thousands of construction workers are out of work. At a time when the unemployment rate is high and revenue is desperately needed, Congress finds a way to contribute to making both worse. Enjoy your vacation. I, for one, will be voting against every incumbent in the upcoming elections.
Actually, Reid is stil talking about it and offering compromises, but the compromises aren't acceptable to the GOP because they are laser focused on killing the union.
One party is not totally to blame for any of the mess we are in currently.

It's there 60's in that region, a lot of the younger generation is starting to question their leaders. Without a democracy it has been brutal. My heart goes out to all the sad mothers they deserve so much better.

The GOP WANTS the economy in bad shape. They are moving to create a 3-4 repetetive crisis cycle with minor crises in between.
April gov't shutdown threats -> July/Aug debt ceiling and default fiasco forcing cuts in the middle of a recession -> FAA union busting to keep 80k people out of work -> Sept/Oct repeat of threats to shut down the gov't if they don't get their way -> Nov/Dec Joint Committee brinksmanship with threats to flip the trigger mechanism -> Feb/March rehash of gov't shutdown threats (watch how they demand in Sept/Oct that the continuing resolution only last for 5-6 months).
Mark my words: They believe preventing recovery from taking place, keeping unemployment high, keeping everyone frustrated and afraid, prolonging our economic suffering, and using the media to sell everyone the false equivalency that the Dems are equally at fault will result in their takeover in Nov 2012. Period. This is about doing as much damage as possible and blaming it on Obama/Dems even if it costs the GOP public approval at the same time.
sorry, just wanted to clarify that was meant to say "3-4 MONTH repetetive crisis cycle"...as in a crisis once each 3-4 months, which would effectively block the economy from having any chance of recovering from the last one and re-starting the slow recovery that was starting to happen prior to the GOP taking the House in January

Im surprised, shouldnt be, but glad that Anderson called out that they scheduled themselves 23 weeks off this year. Probably to campaign, so they campaign half the year to get elected and they work half the year for the American people, if you can call it that.

Just when you think you've seen it All, the FAA issue crops up. I'm out of words for Congress.
Maybe All of Congress should take a "junket" with a regular American family for 1-2 weeks. In that time they could witness how the family budgeted, what the schools were like, how the family shopped (or not), etc. Some should be assigned people who are unemployed, on food stamps or homeless. That might teach them Something about the people they represent!

Hello. Sorry I missed last night Grant. But I read everyones posts so I could stay up to speed with discussions.
Hypocrite Rep. Louie Gohmert had the gall to accuse the President of setting August 2nd as an arbitrary date so the President could throw a big birthday party and yet Gohmert (and his fellow congress critters) are now on a month long vacation. Get back to work and do your jobs and help the American people gain full employment.
I am just sooo sick of the GOP. They keep screaming about jobs, but they don't care about anybody's job, but big business!
Are they talking about a job that they need to be done, or are they talking about employment for the America people! Because when it come to America people, job and employment are like two different things. We are talking a full-time or part-time wages employment.

Construction work is usually temporary (One project at a time) but well paid to hold them over. I understand that congress needs to campaign but these jobs are few and far between but we can't put them in the middle. If we need to rewrite the federal budget lets do it but why have the arguement around smaller bills. Its the budget we need to pass a new budget.
yes, you are right, now is not the time to put them in the middle. Bigger question is why are they having to pass short term spending for the FAA. Budget and put them in it would be a better start.
I'm very sorry, but to the GOP, now is the PERFECT time to put them in the middle. Construction jobs are union jobs and the GOP is taking an opportunity to harm that unionization, support Delta and try to roll back long-standing unionization rules by holding these employees hostage. Reid already said he would not fight them on the closing of rural airports, even the one in NV that they specifically targetted, but they won't accept that because the true goal is to roll back the unionization rules.
There also needs to be better communication between the different levels of Government and the Government Agencies so that one knows what the other is doing and how much it's (approx.) going to cost. Also, there's so often over-run. Rarely is anything done on-time when it comes to construction.
