Marriage is comprised of two elements. The legal element is a legally binding contract managed by state governments. The spiritual element is founded in the couples spiritual beliefs. In a country based on separation of church and state, why are law makers debating spiritual issues ? From a State's perspective marriage is a contract between two people. Why do the States care about the gender of the people entering into a legal contract ?

I thought obama would be two term president, He is such a finest president we ever had, he struggled with all the economy crisis to health issues to defense issue and............... and His sacrifice in capturing binladen, But today after listening to his speech at the LGBT fund raise new york, i am sad he will not make it for the two term president. Lucky for the republican gop candidate and unlucky for the hilary clinton who for the vice president nominee. Obama will never ever forget todays speech in his life. he would someday mention in his book about today for his downfall.

Marriage is between a man and a woman. Equal status between gay couples, for lack of a better name, is Garriage. What is the big issue, since other similar variations of any entity, always respect the established and seek the new?

I see no reason to change the definition of the word marriage. Why not give gay unions their own name; should semantics matter if the legal aspects of the union are the same as those united in marriage. Different language may ensure a successful vote. The country has much bigger issues to worry about.

This country cannot give up it;s Christian beliefs to let gay people push their lifestyle on the rest of us. what they want is wrong and against God's law. Read the Bible. It says what God means
