First 2012 GOP Debate in New Hampshire: Join the Live Chat

Seven presidential hopefuls are sharing the stage in New Hampshire tonight for a GOP Presidential Debate. The showdown wraps up at 10 p.m. ET and will be followed by a special edition of AC360° live from Manchester. Anderson and our political panel will discuss the key moments. We'll also show you some of the hits Pres. Obama took from his GOP rivals tonight. We'll talk that over with his Obama campaign surrogate and former W.H. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. And CNN and the National Journal are asking a panel of political insiders who they thought won and lost tonight's debate. Don't miss the results of our exclusive "insider's" poll.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's debate. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

We got here because Govt loaners gave out crappy loans, then gas went up crazy, causing layoffs, crappy loans ballooned, cant pay bills and lose your home. We are a moving country. You may sell elect cars to people who drive to a job and then drive home. Millions of service industry vehicles( service co., truckers, deliveries, etc.) cannot cut fuel use. You get our own fuel back down between 1 – 2 dollars/ gal ( drill here / now) and this economy will take off. simple gas down=everything up

Sounds like Michelle Bachman impressed folks. That surprises me but I do like that she is apparently bumping Palin to the side. I'm thinking it will be a Romney/Obama election. We'll see. I'm sure others did do well tonight but can they be President?

Good night everyone. I learned alot from the show and from everyone's comments on the blog. Was babysitting and missed the debate.

Was it me, or did Ron Paul get an applause after every response he gave, but the "audience approval meter" went down when he started talking... And how the heck to monitor an audiences approval rating? lol

Mitt Romney may look Presidential.. however, he flip flops on the issues and Romney Care is the big elephant in the room. Mitt Romney says what you want to hear. Of course he would still be better at the job than Obama, but that isn't saying much.

    Ron Paul 2012

I agree with the latest comment-ors. I think that RON PAUL did the best job of answering the questions put to him. And I applauded many of his answers. If the election was tomorrow, I would vote for Ron Paul.

Romney will end up Running against Obama

I understand Ron Paul's position on foreign policy, but it isn't possible to turn away from Afghanistan–or to ignore the uprisings happening in the Middle East.

With the way our country is being run, do you not think we'll have uprising of our own? Everywhere you turn, there's another government funded program or bailout. We're in two wars..and yet we've entered another without consent from Congress. Who pays for all of this chaos? We The People. Yet we still go into debt. The United States of America is in a crisis and here we are policing the world. This mustn't go on. Quick Example: Do you cloth and feed the poor? Now if you, yourself are poor. Would you still? America is bankrupt. We're still policing and giving regardless of the pains the We The People are going through.

Ron Paul actually answered the questions asked and stayed within his time limit. A true statesman. The CNN poll is inaccurate. It is insider poll. Look at Anderson Coopers Facebook poll. Overwhelming support for Ron Paul.

Everyone else were puppets and all show. And Cain, forget about it..... When you worked for the FED...your out as far as I'm concerned.

    GO RON!!!

I feel the debate went very well. The main point to be made is that only one of the hopefuls that shared the stage is proven to be consistent with a clear track record. RON PAUL. A man with unshakeable foundation in supporting the people and their Liberties, the Constitution, and LESS Government. Help take back our country. Stop draining the people of their liberties and hard earned money. Vote Ron Paul 2012!

Which is more important to our national security? Libya, Iraq, etc. or our national debt and the fact that China owns so much of our debt. Like Ron Paul said, what we need to be careful of is our Empire building and spreading ourselves too thin. We will end up a completely bankrupt nation with a currency that is worthless. Ron Paul is the only candidate that will keep us focused on the real issues and actually has a feasible and completely transparent plan that is guided by the constitution and not by his personal beliefs, religious or otherwise, like so many of the other candidates. He's the only candidate with a clear vision guided by the constitution.

If this is what the GOP has to offer? Pres. Obama will be the POTUS till 2016.

I think any Democrat would agree.

I think the main problem in this country is that our government no longer works for for the common people. They seem to have forgotten that we are America, the government is not. The canidates need to make it clear that they work for us , and we dont work for them ( taxes). They need to keep any regulation off my property and out of my day to day life , as well as doing their real job of protecting America from coruption and military attacks. ( Stop stealing from us too. Bailing out bankers.)

After watching the candidates tonight, I'm even less impressed (if that's possible) with them than before. I really am hard pressed to find someone that I would vote for.

Where can we vote for a winner?

Ron Paul looked the best overall !

I think Gingrich did quite well and will be back in the race. I agree with those who feel Bachmann was the biggest surprise. I have not been a supporter of her but it was clear tonight whether one agrees with her or not that she has substance and knowledge.

      June 13, 2011 at 10:52 pm |
  21. Lori - CA

I will be very suprised if a woman becomes President of the United States right now. It will not matter how qualifed she is.

      I agree Lori

      June 13, 2011 at 10:51 pm |

I think she is far from qualified. Just a show piece.

        June 13, 2011 at 10:55 pm |

Show piece with a brain. Have to give credit where it's due; she did well tonight.

Great debate only hampered by the time limitations & restrictions. The biggest thing that this show provided for me is that we actually have hope. Hopefully, more debates and information will make it clear who our choice should be. I am hoping that we can choose a leader who can put aside all the "side agendas" and concentrate on guiding us back to the great country that we once were. This may be our last hope to save us as a free country.

    – Robert Gibbs – If the gov't had stayed out of the financial sector and NOT passed the Community Re-Investment Act of 1978, NOT passed legislation guaranteeing loans for low incoming families, NOT pressured banks to approve riskier loans, etc. would the banks have made those loans??? If the housing market had not collapsed as a result, would our economy be in its current state? How can the claim be made that Bush got us into this mess when most of the de-regulation happened before he took office?

    June 13, 2011 at 10:46 pm |
    • Dustin

Agreed, the government had and has no place in the housing market.

      June 13, 2011 at 10:48 pm |
    • Joanne

So very true! Those legislators who insisted everyone have access to a mortgage (regardless of employment or lack thereof and credit rating) are largely responsible for the downturn.

      June 13, 2011 at 10:49 pm |
  25. Dustin

I hope they don't raise the debt ceiling without serious cuts.

    June 13, 2011 at 10:46 pm |
  26. Bret

Romney looked very presidential. Cain apppears to be strong and makes race a non-factor. Big point GOP needs to mhammer is economic collapse really derived from Banks being forced to loan to home buyers that were simply not qualified. redistribution of income at any level does not work in a capitalist society. Winners win and losers lose!

In my opinion, Speaker Gingrinch is definitely my front runner. I was very presently surprised by his direct answers on how to solve problems, rather than impressing everyone with his "record." Answers were direct and to the point! I feel some hope for the Republican Party if he is there choice. We need a STRONG leader in this election and I believe he would be the one candidate that could lead this country back to its roots. I did however favor Senator Santorium and still do as my #2 candidate and I will have to watch how the field of candidates plays out. I am a "conservative" on all issues, but remain a kind loving Christian and believe we still need to help our American Citizens when it is called for; there, there must be a balance of power and reason. Both sides of the isle need to stop worrying about their political ambitions and think about THIS COUNTRY for once.

Its ridiculous thinking that Muslims will institute Sharia law within the US! I feel more scare tactics.

Well, I'm not imprest with any of them, no plan for Americans or how to fix anything! and it was boring:(

      I totally agree

99% was pure rhetoric in my opinion

I can't remember a debate by either party over the years being any different.

No intelligent person believes Sharia Law will ever come to the United States.

After 2 hours of questions. We now know they all will repeal anything Obama has done. What's there plan, you no the one's they were talking about in November? Jobs,Jobs, Jobs and Healthcare.

    June 13, 2011 at 10:41 pm |
  32. Connie MN

President Obama has had plenty of time to establish a goal for the economy and a plan of action. He is lacking leadership ability and we need to replace him. I was happy to see all those worthy candidates standing their necks out to face Obama.

    June 13, 2011 at 10:41 pm |

I believe that this is the result of his lack of experience in business.

      June 13, 2011 at 10:44 pm |
  33. Paula, Colorado

I agree that the Presidential candidates need a plan–not just to be focused on winning the election.

    June 13, 2011 at 10:40 pm |
  34. Dustin

We need a President who will cut spending and cut restrictions on our personal freedoms. The only person who was on the stage to trust with that is Ron Paul.

    June 13, 2011 at 10:39 pm |

      YES!!!!!

Small businesses are suffering on the side of income. There is not enough work to keep them going. Spending incentives for them will not work.

Hopefully folks are paying attention to what Ron Paul is saying, as a new voter it'll be hard to find someone comparable down the road...

They all are campaigning on what got us into all of this mess. I think they all should go fishing because none of them has a clue what America people need!

    June 13, 2011 at 10:37 pm |
  38. ernest

A previous poster asked where we can vote for winner of the debate , I ask also .

Ron paul is the best overall and a true statesman , as well ! Thank you .

    June 13, 2011 at 10:36 pm |
    • Carrie

But Ron Paul 80 yr, old, no thanks and his views are out there!!!!!

      June 13, 2011 at 10:49 pm |
      • Jason

You don't even know how old he is and then you say something like this? I think $1.6 trillion deficits and $14+ trillion debt is OUT THERE. None of these candidates except Ron Paul is willing to put military spending on the table. Come on!

        June 13, 2011 at 10:58 pm |
  39. Nina

If they privatize social security, then it the private sector could file bankruptcy like Enron. That is very scary for me. Social Security has been working well for the past 60 some years. Why change it now. I have major concerns over this issue

    June 13, 2011 at 10:34 pm |
  40. Gloria, Brooklyn, NY

What I heard, none of them has a plan for America!

    June 13, 2011 at 10:34 pm |
    • Frank

That's because they wouldn't let Ron Paul speak.

      June 13, 2011 at 10:59 pm |
  41. Jason

Ron Paul had the best answers as far as I am concerned. Best answer was about making decisions as the Commander in Chief. Gingrich did second best. I was totally turned of by the constant patronizing done by Santorum, Pawlenty, Romney, and Bachman. I don't think Cain has a clue about what a president can or cannot do, Constitutionally.
