Identifying the Dead in Joplin: Join the Live Chat

There's still anger in Joplin, Missouri over how officials are handling the identification of tornado victims. Families are desperate to see their loved ones in the morgue, but that hasn't happened yet. Tonight we learned of a new effort underway to stop the waiting. Plus, remarkable video of a brother searching for his sister just minutes after the tornado slammed into Joplin. And, in other news, a federal judge has ruled that Jared Lee Loughner is not mentally competent to stand trial for the mass shootings in Tuscon earlier this year, including the attempted murder of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Don't confuse that with the "insanity defense." We'll talk it over with CNN's Senior Legal Analyst Jeffrey Toobin.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Here's something positive for Joplin. The United for Joplin telethon here in Missouri raised over $1 million for the people in Joplin.

I think we need to challenge them to figure out their carbon footprints and publish that as part of their "novel".

i find sarah palin kind of an odd curiosity – am not much of a fan, but it is kind of fun to watch the political environment and what she does, guess at what she might do or say or pop up, and then see what ends up happening

I see where she has built Fort Palin in Arizona. It looks like she is doing quite well for herself compared to her old home in Alaska.

People suffering from Paranoid schizophrenia are most often afraid of us!!! Their only outbursts would be from fear. People who have a personality disorder, are much more dangerous and display rage, and "intent" who are fully capable of rape, murder, etc!!!

That is an interesting question concerning treating mental illness in order to try and execute if guilty.

Elizabeth Smart has the right last name! She is such a stong young lady with character. I wish her the best in life. She deserves it and she is smart enough not to settle for less. God bless her and her wonderfully supportive family.

I find it very suspicious that he sung religious hymns in court. Most people who are so severely mentally ill, would not behave in that manor. People who are severely mentally ill do not have the cognitive capability of rape and abduction. People who are suffering from schizophrenia are afraid. The violent outbursts are because they are delusional and think someone is going to "HURT" them!!!

If he was sane enough to know what he want to do on that day, he is well enough to stand trail!

      Agreed!!!

I become tired of people trying to escape responsibility by playing insane! Its very easy to do and people who are crafty can fool health professionals! Its done all the time

those of you who see a conspiracy or secrecy behind the govenor's reasons for verifying dna before releasing bodys aren't reasonable people. think about it, like mike pointed out why have people wongly idenitfy bodies. they have to be certain in each case. hello...there is NO conspiracy here.

Gov Nixon Is Like Donald Trump You Can't Get Straight Anwser

    May 26, 2011 at 10:42 pm |
    • Susan

I agree, Governor Nixon kept skirting the issue of the morgue being opened for the families. At least take pictures of the people in the morgan for family members to view and if there are horrific injuries which making identification impossible, explain that to the familes and let them know DNA will be needed for identification. At least give them some closure so that they can stop wondering or stop searching.

Can nothing be done to halt a regime that sanctions (or orders) this? It is such an abuse of power upon citizens.
