Letters to the President: #828 'Regrets only'

Reporter's Note: The president is not going to the royal wedding. Neither am I. So along with these letters that’s another thing we have in common.

Dear Mr. President,

Hate to admit it, but I’m having a hard time getting worked up about the royal wedding, and I suspect you are too. I don’t think that’s because of this whole kerfuffle over whether you were invited or not. Faced with soaring gas prices, overseas turmoil, continuing worries about unemployment, and the periodic antics of that whole crew up on Capitol Hill, well, frankly, it’s hard to imagine that a royal fais do-do is really all that important.

Oh sure, it’s a big deal to the kids involved. And if they invited me I’d certainly get them a nice blender or garden gnome or something like that. Of course, you being president, I guess you’d have to bring a more “uptown” gift like an official Oval Office steak knife set or maybe you could even sign a colony back over to them. Hey, make it Delaware! Hoo hoo, Biden would be crazy mad! Actually, scratch the whole idea. I’ve been to Delaware and I’d hate to see it go.

I shouldn’t be such a party pooper. I followed the Charles and Diana saga a bit, and strangely enough wound up in Paris not long after she died. By accident, I wandered up on a great pile of flowers around a monument and realized that I was right above the traffic tunnel where the wreck took place. It made the story suddenly a lot less about a princess being killed, and a lot more about a woman living a pretty conflicted life that ended sadly.

Maybe that tragic tale left me wary of connecting emotionally with the royals again, even in a casual way. Still, I wish the young couple well, just as I do any young people anywhere trying to make a start.

I am glad we don’t have royals here, and I chafe a bit when people seem to want them. Whether we are talking about the Kennedys, the Bushes, the Clintons, or any number of ridiculously wealthy families, I just don’t like the idea of dynasties. Then again, I’d like my kids to do as well as I have, so maybe I’m a bit of a hypocrite on that front.

Anyway, that’s all I’m thinking about today. That and China making us into a colony of its own in the not distant future. But I guess that’s another letter for another day. Ha!

Call if you can.

Regards,
Tom

Just was at a gas station where they are charging $3.97/gallon for regular gas if you pay cash or use a shell credit card and they are charging $4.05/gallon for regular if you use some other type of credit card. I took a picture of the sign!

I believe that Donald Trump is lying again when he says he forced President Obama to release his birth certificate. A long time ago, on television, I saw the full form birth certificate of President Barack Obama.

I want to nominate Donald Trump for Anderson Cooper's "Ridiculist"...Trump deserves it more than anyone for all of his foolishness about President Obama's birth place & now his ridiculous claims about Obama's college transcripts! Trump is a crazy man.....Trump is a circus all by himself!
