'Birthers' Not Backing Down: Join the Live Chat

We're Keeping Them Honest tonight on the myth that will not die. The bogus belief that President Obama wasn't born in the United States. You'll hear from "birther" Donald Trump and we'll talk to a Louisiana state lawmaker who's hoping to get legislation passed that would require candidates to provide their long-form birth record. It's one of several states considering such legislation. Plus, the countdown to the royal wedding. Tonight see why Prince William and Kate's path to the alter hasn't always been easy.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

This is such a distraction of what we need to focus on. Lets get back to the economy. Mr. Trump, how many times has your company filed bankruptcy? And this man wants to run our country? You're Fired...

This is not a racial issue. No one should be reprimanded for challenging the eligibility of a President or Candidate birth status. Its our Constitutional obligation and right as Americans. Obama never showed his true Birth Certificate and that's what we want to see. If he doesn't show it, he doesn't have it...End of story!

@ Brian LeBlanc, ..born on foriegn soil...

Yes, they would be considered as a U.S. citizen.
But the requirements of the prerequistion for running for the presidency is you have to be born in America. Not lived here for so long as you do for some other offices. Birth certificates have to be shown to run for the presidency.

In 2004 31% of Republicans would like to change the constitution to allow immigrants to run, mainly so they could vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Times have changed!

I haven't yet seen any of these birthers refer to the time pre-Obama when many Republicans were talking about changing the Constitution so people not born in this country could run for president (e.g., Arnold Schwarzenegger)...

If you go to Hawaii you will find Obama's Hawaii life books. Funny, it tells all about him starting in about the 6th grade. Nothing about the hospital where he was born or the house his parents lived in when he was born.

This pres has shown his birth certificate to the people who need to see it, and it was satisfactory to them. You don't get to demand to see the president's birth cert just because he's a black man. Have any of you laid eyes on Bush's or any other president's? Do you even care that the man that ran against Obama was the only candidate that actually was NOT born in the USA? No one cared because he was white.
I'm sorry for this rant, but this is so obviously racist and it really upsets me.

Is the discussion based on a difference of opinion on what constitutes a legitimate birth certificate? Is there an official, state issued birth certificate in Hawaii? We have that in Texas and anything short of the state issued version, showing the county of birth, is not official.

@ Mari, Ohio...Exactly, it was a prerequisite, therefore it was already addressed, or else he would not have the President. So then why was it raised?

My daughter who was born in Boston at 4 pm on June 7 2001 had to provide not only tphe long form mirth certain. But also a Peter from the attending doctor to certify. To get her passport, why should mr. Obama be any different or any other person seeking the office of the presidency.

Ts the law of the land, we should all oxide by it, specially the ones who take the oath to defend our constitution!

As a A voter and natural born citizen I am appalled that a birth certificat that is not sufficient proof of being born in the USA. This notion that our President Obama is such a concern now. If this was so important why after He is our elected Presiddent is this an issue now? This Country has so many other issues to be concerned with, Jobs, healthcare, loosing a home. National disasters(hurricanes, tornadoes , earthquakes) Work as a team. Not as polarized buffoons. Both party's need to look at the big picture, we are our own enemies because as a civilized nation we cannot even make logical decisions that help our entire nation

You can have the long form released in Hawaii if you agree to do so. Obama has refused to release it. Look at the Law, don't listen to others that are repeating others.

I'm 60 years old, white and a Republican. This "birther" issue is not about politics or state of birth. It's about a black man in America that got elected president who conveniently has an Arabic name and the result is that the deep rooted bigotry of America came to the surface nothing less nothing more. Who would vote for Trump? The fact that he files bankruptcy on a regular basis is enough for me. If he can't manage his what's he going to do with the federal budget?Geez, give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!

anderson, the issue of a legitimate birth goes away if " the name of the parents
ie: father:Bravo Obama; mother: Beverly Begood, are listed on the certificate and not just Mr. & Mrs
My birth certificate from CA says so; my wifes' from Germany says so....pretty simple...
nothing to hide etc... or is there?
amazing how discussions get twisted, especially when the person being questioned is being led!

The Republicans own this. They are in denial if they don't think this is anything but singling out President Obama as being different. So what is the difference – hmmm.
Or, maybe the state of Hawaii and President Obama are in one big conspiracy to usurp the presidency of the US. GOP you are looking like clowns or worse still, racists. What else is it?? GOP needs to be mature and get down to the business of running this country. We have way too many problems to discuss this day in and day out. GOP is wasting time.

    Good point there, Janis!

Isn't that what it's all about? A way to keep Barack Obama off the ballot in a particular state?

No evidence is going to convince these people. They are desperate to find a reason why Obama cannot be the president.

Why not release the long form cert. Show where you were born, (hospital, Dr, etc) I had to do so for a passport.

the Hawaii official mentioned today, who viewed
Obama's long form birth certificate, also said
that Hawaiian law DOES NOT ALLOW PHOTOCOPYING
of it. Only the printout of the info on it that
is the birth certificate they give. Why does
    no one ever mention it?

If some birther bill passed, it would probably end up keeping all Hawaiian candidates off the ballot
in the state that passed such a bill. There are
probably other states with similar birth certificate practices and laws.

I don't understand how the birthes have gone this far. Since Obama's mother was a US citizen, doesn't that, according to the constitution make him a US citizen, thereby making him elibigle to be elected President?

    Obams birth certificate:

Please ask Trump or the state Department if his mother ever been out side of the United States execept to Indonisia during her second marriage and by then Obama was 4 or 5 years old.

It is so ridiculous to continue to belittle oneself with idiotic comments about the birth certificate of another human being, who happens to be President of the USA. The American people have elected him President. Don't be foolish. Case closed.

Isn't a person born on foreign soil to a mother who is a US citizen who has lived at least one of the last five years in the US, a US citizen? What about all those children born over seas to up and coming executives of US companies, are they not US citizens?

Hawaii law does not require you to be born in Hawaii to get the cirtification Obama Has. Your parent only has to certify that they lived in Hawaii in the year prior to the out of state birth.

    Hello Randi and everyone.

The prerequisition for running for president is to show proof of birth in U.S. If not born in U.S. you cannot even run for office of the presidency. I just hope the officials that viewed proof of birth before Obama ran for office did their jobs. And I would believe so for he is in office.

Wow! Money really talks in this country...but what?
Doesn't Donald Trump have anything to do? An investment, a beauty contest, something? And another idiot senator, yawn.
Day by day, the President is less American? What is it to be American?
I think the rest of the world might have a couple of adjectives.

The Certification of Live Birth has the date and time of his birth, 08-04-61 7:24 PM. Search the Hospitals for newborns conceived on that date. Look for witnesses or unfound documentation/pictures that may have been filed at that Hospital.

I ordered a copy of my birth certificate from my state (NY) when I had to renew my passport a few years ago. They sent me a paper very similar to what Hawaii has provided. Does that mean my birth should be questioned, even though I can trace my ancestry back to the American Revolution?

    Hey there Randi,
This issue throws into question the integrity not only the current Hawaiian government members but those back in the day of Obama's birth. I have only one question...are all living presidents required to present their long form original birth certificate? And, the founding fathers? Did they, and if not, were they any less American? I should think the Republicans doing this might be a little embarrassed at this issue dragging on.

Even if Barack Obama was not born in Hawaii, and I belive he was born there, he is still the son of an American woman and thus is an American. This should be brought up and used to put this issue to rest.
