Reporter's Note: The White House says the president has given up smoking. I hope so. He probably hopes I’ll give up writing these letters. And one day I will. But not today.
Dear Mr. President,
I mentioned to you Friday that I have a special report on tonight, and I wanted to remind you to watch if you get a moment. It’s on at 7:30 pm Eastern and called “Stories: Reporter.” I think you might like it, but whether you do or not, it will be something we can talk about when you call. Ha! Good one, eh?
I shouldn’t tease you about that, I know. You’re very busy and I suppose just keeping up with these letters is exhausting enough.
Anyway, working on the show took a lot of effort and I am kind of tired even as I am starting a whole week on the road for Building Up America. Which has me wondering: Are you exercising much these days? I know that your wife has been pushing healthier eating, more active lifestyles, and Fritos for everyone. (Ha! I just added that last part to see if you are paying attention.) That’s a good thing. All you have to do is sit in an airport for twenty minutes watching people walk past to realize that we are increasingly becoming a - what’s a nice way to put it? A portly nation. Or a stout country. Oh let me put it plainly: A lot of us look like we’re smuggling hams.
