Washington (CNN) - The chaos in Libya has raised fears about the security of deadly mustard gas stockpiled in the country and whether Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi might use it on his own people.
A U.S. official said that in a "chaotic situation" there is concern about Libya possessing mustard gas and other chemical agents.
Although there has been no signs that the Libyan leader has ordered their use, Gadhafi is often described by officials as an unpredictable, mercurial individual.
Libya still has approximately 10 tons of the deadly blister agent left in its arsenal, according to Peter Caril, a non-proliferation expert at the Arms Control Association.
Most of the materials are located at the Rabta chemical weapons facility located in a town south of the capital city of Tripoli.

Dear Mr.Anderson
Excellent coverage and focus on the Libyan situation.
A courageous coverage and position in time of extreme political hypocracy.God bless you .
I am so sad to listen to this woman. She is right how much more do we need to hear. Let's help. What can we do? It is taking way too long for a reaction from the West.
I fear for the ferry loaded with US citizens awaiting better weather to leave.
We need to find help.
Lets not let that women in Tripoli become another Ann Frank the one your chatting with on the phone right now
Gadhafi reminds me of Jim Jones of Jones town massacre, the man is crazy! he shows the same facial traits as Jim did when he lost his mind, the libyans needs to be saved.
As some of our WW1 veterans found out mustard gas is a horrible weapon. If the military will continue to refuse to kill their fellow countrymen then perhaps Gadhafi will not be able to use it. However, what about some of the protesters – could there be some zealots in that group that would thing it was justifiable to use it in the protesting activities against pro-Gadhafi?? I think they are just as liable to do something stupid as Gadhafi is.
Anderson news just come in from Libya seif al Arab
Gadafi son defected to the other side this is huge development...........
Just listened to the woman from Libya. She didn't know the world is watching what is going on. I hope we get together with other European countries and do something about this.
It's very hard to see these people suffering like this.
I am SHOCKED and startled that reporter of your caliber has not done much news and investigation into Raymond Davis case (CIA agent arrested in Pakistan for killing two people) especially just today new information surface about him working with Al Qaida in providing them with nuclear and biological warfare. Is American and western media is FREE, FAIR and UNBIAS? I wonder!!!
