@Kate
You are right on that too. And that's where it gets complicated; govts. fail their people.
Wish we had more time for this discussion! Goodnight.
Wow! an earthquake in New Zealand, was not easy to wake up to this morning. I hope that the people get the help that they need.
Great show tonight. The world is on pins and needles and so am I.

We go after terrorists. We also now need to got after pirates.
I just saw Gadafi as Egyptian leader on ac360.
I got a question for you Anderson:
When was the last time our world has seen such a wave of revolution? Which countries are susceptible now?

@Emily – Your remarks re: Bahrain are right on.
@Sue F. Canton- yes, Gadhafi is a sociopath and will likely take as many of his own people as he can down with him.
RE: New Zealand quake – my thoughts & prayers are with the people. I hope all that are alive can be found in time.
Thank you Anderson & Team 360 for another excellent show.
Good night fellow writers, another blazing blog tonight!
I wish you all a safe and peaceful day tomorrow.
That looks like a dreadful earthquake.
@Janis, i really think if they do put out an international bounty on pirates then the amount of instances with pirates will dramatically drop because that is ultimately what they want is money
Goodnight everyone, goodnight Anderson
Good evening, everyone. I hope for better news on Libya soon.
It's terrible to hear of the Americans killed by pirates–difficult to find some solution for the epidemic of piracy.
Molly – excellent question about the U.S. navy's "negotioating" policy
Rumor has it that the last time this happened, and the Navy successfully rescued the captain of the hijacked ship, that the WH was annoyed. They wanted a 'peaceful' resolution. That probably tied the Navy's hands this time.
I think they knew the risks of sailing there, lilly. That's what makes me wonder what they were thinking.
Great discussion tonight!
Stay safe Ben and Arwa!
Good night Emily, Mike, Nicole, Nancy in Oregon, Starr, and Megan.
It's clear that pirates have to be taking out of business!
@ Kenya
Isn't the point of democratic government that it serves the citizens? If they demand answers then they should be given them. I think many democratic governments in the west are forgetting who they actually serve.
@Starr, formerly known as vincent, "i wouldl like to say that the US and Europe were "duped", however, as we All know, it was all about Oil!"
I think the US and Europe chose to be ignorant about Libya.
Does the state department give warnings on where not to sail? Do the people sailing not know the risks of sailing in this area or are they choosing to ignore it?
Tragic story of the Americans shot on their yacht. God rest them!
How can the U.S. just sit back and do nothing?!
I was hoping to hear that the four hostages were still alive. It's sad to see what people will do for $$$.
Pirates...what put an end to the era of pirating before the modern day, does anyone know?
@janis i would gladly hunt pirates!
Who from his inner circle, feeds the dictator his lines?!!
He obviously has the other copy of Muamar's green book!!
The killings we saw happening in Bahrain is the same thing President of Cameroon has been doing in the past! Tomorrow Cameroon's revolution begin in Central Africa please Anderson Cooper Help this country with your keeping them honest report!! There is no gainsaying the part your truth does to dictators! Paul Biya of Cameroon is among the worst dictators in the world and his 7years reign as Prime Minister and 29years as President is about to crumble. The peoples rule want to go into effect in Cameroon. Help sir I am crying for your focus in this Country...
@ Jo Ann, Ohio
From what I understand this is a one time thing and these public employees have better benefits than their private sector counterparts.
Governor Scott Walker wants to take all the money collected from the public employees towards their retirement and pay off the state debt. That is akin to taking social security to pay off our debt to China. It is wrong!
@Michael formely of the USMC_charlotte, "Yes, I understand that, but Bahrain is in the Persian Gulf.
are these pirates on hallucinogenic drugs? they sure act like it are they of the same group that the mercenaries in libya are reportedly from? perhaps that is where the colonel got those hallucinogenic drug stories from – perhaps that is how they get their own recruits to kill so brutally – if he himself is strung out he may have his facts backwards
@JoAnn – in response to your post, i wouldl like to say that the US and Europe were "duped", however, as we All know, it was all about Oil!
The US & Europe i think were hopeful when Gadhafi's son acted as a sane intermediatry when the nuclear and other weapons were surrendered. They may have thought the Gadhafi's son would inherit his father's position.
The loss of the Americans on the yacht is a true tradgidy. My thoughts and prayers are with the family & friends of those who were lost today.
Just seeing this tragic story of the Americans shot on their yacht. God rest them!
@Kaytee,
"Sec of state Hillary Clinton is speaking for the president. She is the chief diplomat of the US."
Sec. Clinton has been speaking very well!
Why isn't their some sort of international bounty for the capture of these pirates?
Pirates, protest, unrest around the world. Even our country.
The world is so beautiful to be such a tragic place of hate.
Can't we police the pirates? Our milary needs to act. Ridiculous!
A phone call from a sick neighbor interrupted my visit tonight. I'm so sorry for the families of the sailing couples...but have to really wonder what the four were thinking when they went off their course (if I understand the story properly.)
"The navy was negotiating their release..." What is the the navy's policy on negotiating with pirates?
How tragic the pirates killed all the hostages. omg holding 700 hostages by pirates? Sounds very dangerous sailing the seas these days and I am not talking about sea monsters...well human sea monsters!
@Lori
"Our officials have to make careful statements due to oil and many other things"
I'm sure. These "other things" we are not aware of are a matter of discussion behind closed doors that may be beyond our understanding. Perhaps that's why we shouldn't be so quick to jump to our own conclusions as to why the govt. isn't doing anything /acting fast enough. Don't you think? Everyone seems to want answers right away. Like we should wave some magic wand to solve other nation's problems.
That was a sad, sad turn of events for the US yachtsmen. Sorry for their families.
@syracuse mike, i hope u are wrong, for those peoples sake!
My heart goes out to the family of the 4 people killed by Somali pirates. 700! One hostage is too many.
It is so sad to hear that the americans were killed in the hostage situation. It doesn't sound like a very save place to be sailing.
That's a tragic story of those sailors.
The odds any of these revolts lead to real democracy are very low.
