    @Emily, Thank you! That's good. I heard though that Al Jazeera has been blocked... so I wondered. All of the Internet connections are gone. No wonder people feel stifled.

    It anybody thinks that President Obama is uncertain – then you are totally off the path. They know exactly what is going. Do not underestimate the folks who have been working in the field long before President Obama. Goodness – he is not the only person working in the United States Government!!!

    @Mohamed Ayay

    Thank you very much for your post and all of the information your provided.
    I fear that some of the "rumors" about the police may be true based on previous reporting that some of the "thugs" at night in Ciaro were given over to the army and were found to be police.
    I pray there will not be violence, especially started by police or other factions that are not for the Egyptian people.

    I was almost late for work this morning....dreamed last night that I was reporting with Anderson from Egypt....this is so dramatic. I hope he stays safe.

    Great reporting Anderson! Amr Moussa is a much more qualified candidate compared to Mohamed ElBaradei. ElBaradei is not a leader, much less the Opposition leader, he has spent most of his life outside of Egypt.

  29. Paula, Colorado

    I am praying for the people of Egypt to have a peaceful protest demonstration and that their pleas (requests) will be granted and will be answered.

  33. Emily

    @Nicole,
    "Mohamed ELBaradai has lived in Vienna, he is well connected with world leaders, and is willing to take responsibility."
    He does have many connections around the world, however, it seems that many Egyptians don't trust him. They think that he was covering for Iran when he was the head of the IAEA and not allowing the US to go in and check their nuclear system. They don't think that he would have the best for Egypt in mind. He doesn't seem to have a following their to get elected.

  34. Jacqueline

    We see protesters signs against the U.S. Are they protesting any other countries? Also, we haven't heard any comments from the protesters, the actual people on the street, as to what they forsee tomorrow, the next day, next week, etc, will look like if/when Moborak leaves. Last question: how did the prisoners escape. In Haiti it was due to the earthquake, how did the Egyptian prisoners get out?

    January 31, 2011 at 10:50 pm |
  35. Nicole The Netherlands

    Last week during the demonstrations the teargas used by the police was of U.S. making, they were held up in front of the camera of European TV stations.
    "made in the U.S.A."
    That's also part of the truth...

    January 31, 2011 at 10:49 pm |
  36. Sara NYC

    @ Charlie
    I don't think so Charlie. This foreign policy is inherited. And I don't think the administration today is for it.

    If the Obama Administration really wants Mubarak out, I think they'd silently negotiate behind the scenes – which they're trying to do according to Anderson. If they want him to stay, they'd decry his current failure of leadership in public to save face, but privately affirm their commitment to fund aid to Mubarak the Egyptian Army.

    Such is diplomatic warfare.

    @Starr: Thank you. I have exhausted all channels and time is running out on the evac. I can only continue praying.

    I do understand that the people of Egypt are asking for change and for freedom. I hope that Murbark is really and clearly listening to the people and understand what they want from him. I do not know how much longer the violence will continue in Egypt. I hope that tourists from the U.S. Canada, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East, and other places, are able to leave Egypt due to safety concerns. The U.S. must helps its people and must not leave them stranded in Egypt. The tourists really need help getting out of Egypt.

    Hello Mr Anderson

    Please for Gods sake tell USA whoever they are, tell them to order Mubarak to leave, it does not matter the right thing is to defend democracy or Middle East Nations will never trust USA policy is int the USA wanted to bring democracy even by force to the region even by force. Who cares what other nations will think it is in the USA benefit to side the right thing this is how USA will even protect their interests, if the USA gains these new democratic nation, all USA financial problems will be solved.

    Mr Anderson you are in Egypt dont you feel now that Israel is trying to get USA to fall in the mud, I think Israel has to behave, Muslem brother hood is not dangerous, USA need to be after Ben Laden, but not after Muslems, it is just a religion for God sake.

    Will all my respect to you and to the great job you are doing in Egypt.

    Listen to the right thing, Mubarak wants to burn Egypt before he leaves. The army will go with the people they are from people and they will never fire. I am an Arab, all Arab been dreeming of this day and every Arab feel he is an Egyptian today. The reason we are in the USA because our ambissions are killed in the Arab World and we are good people we deserve like Egyptians deserve the right to live free and with Dignity, Mubarak is a burned card he has to leave no matter what including all people with him. Good luck for you thanks for the covarege and tell you we love our freedom like any body else.

    Frankly, I think Egypt is an enormous opportunity for all who love democracy, regardless of religion. By being quietly assertive without inciting anger in the civilians in Egypt, we will promote democracy and uphold our principles at the same time. It is the best way to show to the world what we are about. What a tremendous opportunity with the portion of the world that may have questioned us in the past!

    Anderson, please tell the people you meet in the streets of Cairo that one American and her friends want them to to let them to know that while our government is doing what it feels it needs to do, we aren't constrained by diplomatic considerations and want to encourage and support every Egyptian who is risking his/her life to create a democracy for the people of Egypt based on justice, tolerance and the rule of law.
    We're watching and we're with you.
