Letters to the President # 735: 'More cowbell'

Tom Foreman | BIO
AC360° Correspondent

Reporter's Note: President Obama has talked about cooperation since the Republicans took back the House. As I note in today’s letter, however, calling for cooperation in DC is like calling for more cowbell. More doesn’t seem to matter; you either have it or you don’t.

Dear Mr. President,

Sorry to see what happened to your Bears. They looked like they had a real chance there near the end, but Green Bay just had a bit more muscle, I'm afraid. So i guess you won't be going to the Super Bowl now. Trust me, if I were President I'd go to the big game whether my team made it or not. Seriously, you know you'd have great seats. They'd probably even let you flip the coin or sing the national anthem or something.

Oh well, I know you have other games on your mind.

I was noticing, for example, these headlines about a new storm brewing over the deficit. In a nutshell, the Repubs are going to push for spending cuts to bring the deficit under control, and your Dems are going to argue that the economy is still far too fragile to risk such maneuvers.

To be honest, the first thing I thought when I head about this was, "business as usual.". People often caution against buying into stereotypes about different people and groups, yet I have often found that stereotypes come into being because they are grounded in some sort of truth. And when I look at this, it certainly seems that way. Once again the Dems seem to think that government spending is the solution; once again the Repubs seem to think it is the problem.

Almost certainly the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Everything I read about the economy that seems fully reasoned suggests that we may have to work our way through delicately balanced equation for quite some time; we may well end up paying more in taxes, and we may well get less in return. We'll have to hold onto a deficit for while as we try to stabilize things, but then again, we can't afford to hang onto it too long or let it grow too big, for fear of creating a runaway train.

Anyway, it's just kind of depressing. For all of that talk from both major parties about cooperation, and working together, I just don't see many signs of it. I see a lot of finger pointing; a lot of scape goating; but not much that gives me faith we'll see much progress.

So that's about it for this Monday. Had an excellent 13 mile run yesterday. Passed several dozen folks playing hockey on the frozen canal. You should have been there. Shall we bet on the Super Bowl, now that we know who is in? I'm inclined to think the Packers have the edge, but if you want them, I'll take the Steelers. Let me know.

Regards,

Tom

Jan Brewer's response ? "Sad but necessary." Find a solution now to the probem ! Bill 1001 ? How long will that take ? See the Death Panel in the Health Care law yet ? Fix it ! Support NTAF and Douglas Gravagna and others that need a heart transplant. That program seems to be the back up plan right now that we have viewing a solution. Check these figures ! Health Care counts for 17% of GDP and last year the GDP is around 1.4 trillion. Take 17% of that and it's an estimated $2.38 trillion costing $7,777 per person or $31,108 for a family of four. Taxes up on Health Care ? Ask Ali with CNN to go over these figures and break it down for us to mathmatically understand for clear accuracy.

    WHO IS THE BLAME

Over 15 million jobs lost under former President G.W Bush. Under President Obama two million jobs lost 750,000 create! BUT that two million is the result of the 15 million under Bush! Many of those 15 million jobs where factory jobs that left to re-open oversea! Those factory employee supported the Delis the Cleaners the grocery stores etc! That went under because the Republican administration under Bush allowed American jobs to go oversea! Those jobs are the 2 million! Now President Obama is told to be Rumpelstiltskin! Create jobs with American businesses that are non-American and full of greed and oversea! The Republican Party sold America OUT! Then turn a surplus into debt then started two wars (Iraq & Afghanistan)! The Iraq war after wrong information! Causing the needless deaths of American troops. 4,400 and counting for NOTHING! Bush is now selling his book without a care in the world! The white control media is blaming President Obama for the job condition in America! When they know it was the Republican administration under Bush that cause the problem! 9/11 happen under Bush! Yet white Americans turn power back to Republicans! Making the Obama’s recovery of Republicans mess!

President Obama: I wonder just how powerfull it would be to have a person like 50 cent, the Rapper, to talk or to lend his support for the drug testing Kit from Identa Corp!! The testing Kit will tell parents if their kids are doing drugs or not with Know false negatives, it would be Great for Parents and communities! If parents know early they can possibly stop them from going on to other drugs in the future!! I really wish Identa Corp would start doing Comercials in the United States, I'am sure it would be a Big sucess in the entire United Staes, we need all the help we can get, to stop our kids from getting hooked on drugs!! I really believe that Identa Corp is the answer to our Drug Problems. It would also be a big help for Law Enforcement.

What is going on in Ariz and is this what we can all look foward to across the country in our own state ? Good for you Senator Schapira and good job !Now let's go see what what Dr. John Geyman's analysis is on the PPACA Affordable Health Care Act.Quality care not likely to improve ? Uncontrolled costs of health care and insurance will make them unaffordable for a large and growing part of the population and he's interesting. This health care ordeal going on in Ariz. is to freakie !This PPACA is going to cost the American people a trillion plus and it's a good idea to make sure the people like this new bill. Right now that's close to 14% and wouldn't surprise me after this Jan Brewer and Ariz ordeal if that went to 5%. So see,the Democrats and the Republicans are going to have to work this out and who the hell is paying the $230 billion it'll cost in a repeal ? Bill 1001 for Ariz and fund it Gov Jan Brewer ! Ya gotta wonder,is this what we'll see in our own states we live ? Fund the law Obama and you signed it !
