Welcome to our 3rd annual Golden Globes Live Blog. I'm your host and, in case you're wondering, my qualifications include once meeting Ricky Gervais at the Chateau Marmont and working for several years in a video store/tanning parlor.

I'll be with you from 8pm Eastern Time until the conclusion of the East Coast telecast. Now, to be clear, we're not advocating changing your channel from CNN. But if you're going to watch the Golden Globes anyway, you might as well watch them with us as your running commentary. And frankly, you don't even need to be watching the Golden Globes to enjoy the live blog.

Disclaimer: I'm sure some of these movies/TV shows are connected to CNN through our parent companies Turner Broadcasting and Time Warner. HBO, Warner Brothers and New Line Cinemas are just a few of our high-profile sister companies. But seeing as how another year has gone by and I've not gotten so much as a free hat or poster, I'm not in the tank for anyone. Except for Betty White. Not that she's even nominated. I'm just in the tank for her in general.

If you want to take part in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) keep in mind that you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst – and that includes $#&*)

Message seems to be loud and clear from the Foreign Press by the awards presented: It's Okay to be Gay. Solid time to deliver the message.

Anyone else notice that Gervais is reading off the cards almost spitefully and not doing it off the cuff. Might have been a push to stick to the "approved" jokes per his contract, etc.

Great speech by Natalie Portman. I love that she joked about hooking up with her choreographer-turned-fiance.

The Black Swan chic winner has on a GREAT gown...but sure didn't need that diamond necklace. It was a stunning look w/o extra dazzle.

Theory for the Conspiracy: The amount of time allotted to the actors/actresses to speak has increased as the time for Gervais to make jokes has gone down. This would be the obvious explanation. And as I type this, Gervais is back.

is it bad press that Portman got pregnant months before a movie about casual hookups with a "friend" came out?

    January 16, 2011 at 10:35 pm |
  18. Hayley

@Jack Gray I might be willing to finish that bag for you 🙂

i would think Gervais got pulled if they had random people going up to introduce awards/presenters but i don't think anything he's said was that bad. might just be an effort to push the night forward and make up time lost by long speeches (which as everyone knows is extremely important with shows like this).

What was bleeped? Where is the host?

Going back, did anyone else think Michelle Pfeiffer had one too many? I thought she was barely there, almost slurring and weaving a bit to the mike, no? Ok, in the present, can it be that Depp was passed over w/ 2 noms, that's fine tho.' And aren't the choices a little funny half the time? Who decides? Seems fishy esp. the omitted. Mostly love Gervais. But appearance, ability jokes – not.

Ne – ha! I just finished a DQ Blizzard! Extra workout tomorrow, I keep it in check, but I'm no skeletaur either. I noticed Halle Berry, a woman with healthy curves, got whistles that I didn't hear for the others!

these black and white montages about style and glamor sound like they have matthew mcconaughey narrating and make me want to wear a suit to work tomorrow. until i realize it isn't matthew mcconaughey but, rather, a Chrysler commercial.
